Senior Obama adviser on impeachment: 'I would not discount that possibility'

Washington (CNN) – Dan Pfeiffer, a longtime aide and senior adviser to President Barack Obama, told reporters Friday that recent talk of impeaching the President should not be considered a long shot.

"I would not discount that possibility," Pfeiffer said, pointing out that a CNN/ORC International poll released Friday indicated that a third of Americans think Obama should be impeached.

Pfeiffer, who spoke to reporters at The Monitor Breakfast, pointed at recent attempts by House Republicans to sue the President as evidence that they would consider impeachment in the future.

"Speaker Boehner, by going down the path of this lawsuit, has opened the door to Republicans possibly considering impeachment at some point in the future," Pfeiffer said. "I think that if the President enacted immigration reform that would certainly up the likelihood that they would contemplate impeachment."

Although one-third of Americans endorsed impeaching Obama, according to the CNN poll, a sizable 65% said they wouldn't take that step. There were also, expectedly, partisan divisions on the question with 57% of Republicans but only 35% of independents and 13% of Democrats backing a move to impeach Obama.

Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, earlier this month called for Obama to be impeached over the growing number of undocumented children from Central American coming across the southern border.

In an opinion editorial for the conservative website Brietbart, Palin wrote that "(Obama's) unsecured border crisis is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, 'no mas.'"

"It's time to impeach; and on behalf of American workers and legal immigrants of all backgrounds, we should vehemently oppose any politician on the left or right who would hesitate in voting for articles of impeachment," she continued.

Talk of Obama's impeachment has long been a hallmark of the far right, but has experienced a recent uptick of late.

After President Bill Clinton in 1998 became only the second president to be impeached, his public approval hit 73%, the highest rating of his administration, according to a CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll.

Pfeiffer, however, rejected the idea that impeachment would be a good thing for Obama and his lagging poll numbers.

"We take it very seriously and I don't think it would be a good thing," he said. "But I think it would be foolish to discount the possibility that Republicans would at least consider going down that path."

Obama knowingly and purposefully LIED to the American people about Obamacare in order to pass it and get re-elected. The lies have now all become obvious to everyone. Obama has caused damage to many millions of American with his lies, and there is a lot more damage to come.

ALL Democrats should be thrown OUT this November to send a clear message to Obama and the Democrats that perpetrating a massive fraud and lying to the American people to do it WILL BE PUNISHED.

Obama? Leave him wallow in his misery and failure for another 2.5 years so the country will learn its lesson well. Don't elect an inexperienced community organizer or an amateur novelty act for the most difficult job in the world.

A group of GOP guys got together when Obama was sworn in and made a pact to stop everything he tries to do whether they agree or not. This has been well documented. They tried voting against bills, encouraging fringe behavior like gun violence and racism, shutting down the government, and just sitting there doing nothing. Now they have hit upon law suits and impeachment as the ultimate time waster. Remember this when you vote. Vote them out. They can do nothing just fine when they get turned out.

So Palin is using this as an excuse to stop Immigration reform? Well, there you have it GOPerville. Not only will there be NO Immigration reform, neither will the President be impeached for enacting Immigration reform by Executive Order; because you know ... either way he'd face impeachment hearings so why bother doing anything.

Buy, hey. DO keep blaming Obama for not doing anything. GOPerville talking points have gone from absurd to pathetic. No doubt because OF Sarah Palin; who seems to want it both ways ... against Obama.

It is HIS fault that our borders are not secure, and it is HIS fault nothing is being done to secure the borders. Yet, all the while, John Boehner publicly admitted that Congress will do nothing ... at least NOT before they enjoy their month long recession. Even the most ardent complainers of Barack Obama must admit that without Congress, particularly the Republican controlled House, nothing can be done or allocated.

    Keep talking, Sarah. Keep talking.

You mean like starting an unnecessary corporate imperialist war based on lies about that country having WMDs and thereby causing the deaths of over 100,000 innocent civilians and over 5,000 American soldiers? Where was the punishment for that?

Your first sentence is a lie so there was no need to read any further, not that I ever do when it comes to you. If I'm not mistaken didn't the GOP in Congress state the Bill was too long to read? I do realize many of them are nothing but farmers and hicks but aren't they being paid to read these bills? That's why Pelosi said you'll have to pass it to read it because they refused to read it in the first place. Don't you get tired of spewing lies and hate on a daily basis?

I think that if the Republicans demonstrate weakness, by succumbing to the pressure from the extreme right, and move forward on impeaching the president, then the Republican Party would be putting the final nails in their own coffin. Most Americans will simply stop voting for them, and the party will degenerate from a national party into a regional party.

If either the Democratic or the GOP/TP candidate for President is well ahead in the month before the 2016 election, the House may impeach Obama then. If the race is close, the House will wait until the election is over and then impeach him. The fact that the impeachment would be meaningless – it takes many months to bring an impeachment to the Senate and regardless of who wins Obama will no longer be President before the Senate would act the impachment- will not be important to the House or the GOP/TP base. Smearing Obama will be all that matters.

There is no proof whatsoever that George Bush lied but there is a lot of proof that Obama lied about Obamacare and the impact it would have on Americans. His advisors even knew he was lying but the knew if he didn't and the truth was told, then Obamacare would never have passed.

Just what we need. We have ObamaCare; Child Immigration; Ukraine; Palestine; Iraq; and so on. We've got a bunch of stubborn thumbsuckers in the Congress, and a whiney President. We're not doing anything else so let's just spend the rest of his term impeaching Obama. Then, everybody in Washington gets something to do while the country continues to get nothing from their efforts.

Has there been anything that has really risen to the level of impeachment? George W. Bush and his administration failed to accurately get all the information for his conquest of Iraq. I don't think that there was any thought about impeachment there by large groups of Democrats. I don't see where there was any cooperation from the GOP on getting things done in Congress. From all this hooting and hollering, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Although one-third of Americans endorsed impeaching Obama

Also known as the "we lost two elections and we are going to throw an eight year hissy fit" crowd. Coincidentally, about the same percentage that think the earth is 6000 years old, that the sun revolves around the earth, that the President was born in Kenya and that are unable to name the three branches of government.
    You know, the stupid people.

    Facts:

Under Bush, the illegal immigrant population grew by 27% and the GOP through no fits and never called for his impeachment.

Under Obama, the illegal immigration population has stabilized and not experiencing almost ZERO net growth, but the GOP/Teatrolls are calling for his impeachment over it.

Brass tacks: it's all about the "browning" of America for the GOP/Teatrolls. If you really want to understand why GOPers/Teatrolls are throwing a nutty over illegal immigration, check out Obama's complexion and then read the following...

"Overall the immigrant population grew 28 percent between 2000 and 2010. But it grew at more than twice the national rate in: Alabama (92 percent), South Carolina (88 percent), Tennessee (82 percent), Arkansas (79 percent), Kentucky (75 percent), North Carolina (67 percent), South Dakota (65 percent), Georgia (63 percent), Indiana (61 percent), Nevada (61 percent), Delaware (60 percent), Virginia (60 percent), and Oklahoma (57 percent)."

Yeah...what "color" are most of those states?

Actually, I think the baggers have done the.President a favor, by advocating impeachment . They have handed the Dems a reason to rally the base to GOTV in the midterms, in an effort to keep control of the Senate.

Cuz, rest assured, it the baggers win the Senate majority, and keep their House majority, President O will be impeached!

"The lies did start with the dems."

LOL. Nobody in the Clinton administration ever demanded on Congress or the American public that they be given the power to go to war in Iraq based on lies that Saddam possessed WMDs.

Were they investigating it and trying to obtain and understand intelligence about it? Sure. But they recognized that they did not have enough to do what Dubya, Cheney, Powell, Rumsfeld and Rice said and did it...which is why they never said and did it.
