Senior Obama adviser on impeachment: 'I would not discount that possibility'

Washington (CNN) – Dan Pfeiffer, a longtime aide and senior adviser to President Barack Obama, told reporters Friday that recent talk of impeaching the President should not be considered a long shot.

"I would not discount that possibility," Pfeiffer said, pointing out that a CNN/ORC International poll released Friday indicated that a third of Americans think Obama should be impeached.

Pfeiffer, who spoke to reporters at The Monitor Breakfast, pointed at recent attempts by House Republicans to sue the President as evidence that they would consider impeachment in the future.

"Speaker Boehner, by going down the path of this lawsuit, has opened the door to Republicans possibly considering impeachment at some point in the future," Pfeiffer said. "I think that if the President enacted immigration reform that would certainly up the likelihood that they would contemplate impeachment."

Although one-third of Americans endorsed impeaching Obama, according to the CNN poll, a sizable 65% said they wouldn't take that step. There were also, expectedly, partisan divisions on the question with 57% of Republicans but only 35% of independents and 13% of Democrats backing a move to impeach Obama.

Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, earlier this month called for Obama to be impeached over the growing number of undocumented children from Central American coming across the southern border.

In an opinion editorial for the conservative website Brietbart, Palin wrote that "(Obama's) unsecured border crisis is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, 'no mas.'"

"It's time to impeach; and on behalf of American workers and legal immigrants of all backgrounds, we should vehemently oppose any politician on the left or right who would hesitate in voting for articles of impeachment," she continued.

Talk of Obama's impeachment has long been a hallmark of the far right, but has experienced a recent uptick of late.

After President Bill Clinton in 1998 became only the second president to be impeached, his public approval hit 73%, the highest rating of his administration, according to a CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll.

Pfeiffer, however, rejected the idea that impeachment would be a good thing for Obama and his lagging poll numbers.

"We take it very seriously and I don't think it would be a good thing," he said. "But I think it would be foolish to discount the possibility that Republicans would at least consider going down that path."

""Overall the immigrant population grew 28 percent between 2000 and 2010. But it grew at more than twice the national rate in: Alabama (92 percent), South Carolina (88 percent), Tennessee (82 percent), Arkansas (79 percent), Kentucky (75 percent), North Carolina (67 percent), South Dakota (65 percent), Georgia (63 percent), Indiana (61 percent), Nevada (61 percent), Delaware (60 percent), Virginia (60 percent), and Oklahoma (57 percent).""

BTW, I should point out that this paragraph refers to the immigrant population, NOT just illegal immigrants. It includes the LEGAL ones too.

I wasn't aware that a state had a "color". Dude, in Hebrew we have a phrase: "dayenu" which means "enough". Do you have any new material. This is why Rudy and you have jumped the shark. You guys are so boring. Day in, day out. Day after day after day after day of te exact same lines and accusations. You and the extreme right are exactly why our nation is so divided. Your constant drumbeat about how racist everyone is while YOU are te one that assigns everyone into categories shows that you are the one that thinks about and considers race. By the way, Georgia is 30 % African American and 12% Latino. Even your assumptions demonstrate what is most important to YOU. "So Palin is using this as an excuse to stop Immigration reform? Well, there you have it GOPerville. Not only will there be NO Immigration reform, neither will the President be impeached for enacting Immigration reform by Executive Order; because you know ... either way he'd face impeachment hearings so why bother doing anything"

I dunno. I don't think that's how Obama works. He will do what he can because he can because he believes it's the right thing to do and the Teatroll howling be d-mned. Will he attempt some sort of overhaul? No. Might he issue a few more executive orders about how to prioritize who to deport and how to enforce laws like the 2008 law signed by Dubya that sets forth how these unaccompanied children are to be treated and given due process? Yep. Will the GOP/Teatrolls howl no matter what he does? He don't care.

I expect what will likely happen is that the GOP/Teatrolls in control of the House will pass some ridiculous partisan ultimatum bill right before their August vacations and then flee D.C. for their vacations and town hall/media blitz month. Then, we'll be deluged throughout August with inconsolable poutrage that President Darky is uppity and disobedient and won't just do as he's told by his rightful whiteful masters and sign the grossly partisan legislation they demand. The MSM, ever the hungry lamprey attached to the GOP/Teatroll underbelly, will eat it all up and regurgitate it all in our faces in hopes or stirring the nontroversy pot.

Oh come on people, nobody, and I mean NOBODY, is seriously talking about impeaching Obama.

This is just another left wing ploy to gin up the base for the coming election. This is all you will coming out of Obama, the Democrats, and their lackeys in the MSM, bogus "issues" and ruses to get people to the polls so they don't get massacred like they did in 2010.

We hear it here all the time from the "usual suspects". Revolution, rebellion and so forth. The Birthers were saying "their" country was being taken over. The GOP said nothing when southern LE groups held shoots with images of the President, and don't forget Sarah Palin's second amendment solutions- one that actually got a congressman shot. They have pandered to the militias with their support and praise for Bundy the deadbeat rancher and more. Of course we saw the exact same pandering that lead to the OKC bombing and Waco.

Impeachment? Now why does the question even come up. Must be something rotten out there. I suspect the Great Unwashed are going to Speak up in November. Kinda like the Ride of the Valkeries. Lot's of bodies left in the wake.

I hear a lot of ACLU Lawyers want to Sue to make sure all the Border Jumpers on the Southern Border each have a Lawyer to Represent them, Uh, at, your, Taxpayers expense. I seem to remember out in the Old West there was Frontier Justice. When they caught a Horse Thief they took them to the nearest tree and Hung them. All those ACLU Lawyers look like a bunch of Horse Thieves to me. With Obama, we are just going to leave him on the Trash Heap of History. Uh, slight correction, he is going to leave his self on the Trash Heap of History. Hope you have a good Retirement Plan.

Also, there is no proof Obama lied about the ACA maybe he didn`t read it like everyone else who helped pass this stupid law.
    --

Absolutely not true. There were numerous discussions within the White House about whether Obama should continue to say what he was saying when it was known it was not true (keep your doctor, keep your hospital, keep your plan). All of his speeches are heavily reviewed, every single word gone over. This has been reported by more than one news agency. It is exactly why he was awarded his well deserved Liar of the Year award. I suggest you do some research.

"Do you have any new material."

That was new material. I've never cited those FACTS here before. Cry all you want. We're watching the GOP/Teatrolls throw a nutty over immigration because they watched a black man get elected twice and he did it by earning the vast majority of minority votes and it all took place in the context of rapid demographic shifts that are turning the country brown. The GOP/Teatrolls are idiots, but they're not so stupid that they don't see the writing on the wall and what these demographic shifts mean for their political power and influence and all the latent racism and white fright and race resentment that's been held in check over the past couple decades erupted like a bigotry volcano upon the election of the walking, talking proof of their existential dilemma. Denying it, crying about it when people point it all out, pretending none of the GOP/Teatrolls other behavior, such as their pervasive attempts at voter suppression, aren't related to it and aren't evidence of it all...that's just you denying reality because it all makes you so uncomfortable to confront what it just might mean about YOU that you so fervently support them.

"You and the extreme right are exactly why our nation is so divided. "

Yeah, totally. When confronted with the massive radicalization of a political party largely caused by racism and bigotry, it only makes you part of the problem to point it out and cite evidence to support your arguments. Totally. Everyone get that? From now on you're supposed to just grin and bear it, bend over and take it, whenever you see demonstrably racist, bigoted, misogynist behavior...because it's far more important that everything appears to be just dandy and that the racists, bigots, misogynists et al don't get their feefees hurt.

Most black people will support President Obama no matter what he says or does. The unsaid reason(unsaid on any TV or media outlet) is because he is black. period, no other reason. That is a form of racism, but again not to be mentioned or acknowledged as a fact. Yes there are racists in this country and alot of them are black americans
