Senior Obama adviser on impeachment: 'I would not discount that possibility'

Washington (CNN) – Dan Pfeiffer, a longtime aide and senior adviser to President Barack Obama, told reporters Friday that recent talk of impeaching the President should not be considered a long shot.

"I would not discount that possibility," Pfeiffer said, pointing out that a CNN/ORC International poll released Friday indicated that a third of Americans think Obama should be impeached.

Pfeiffer, who spoke to reporters at The Monitor Breakfast, pointed at recent attempts by House Republicans to sue the President as evidence that they would consider impeachment in the future.

"Speaker Boehner, by going down the path of this lawsuit, has opened the door to Republicans possibly considering impeachment at some point in the future," Pfeiffer said. "I think that if the President enacted immigration reform that would certainly up the likelihood that they would contemplate impeachment."

Although one-third of Americans endorsed impeaching Obama, according to the CNN poll, a sizable 65% said they wouldn't take that step. There were also, expectedly, partisan divisions on the question with 57% of Republicans but only 35% of independents and 13% of Democrats backing a move to impeach Obama.

Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, earlier this month called for Obama to be impeached over the growing number of undocumented children from Central American coming across the southern border.

In an opinion editorial for the conservative website Brietbart, Palin wrote that "(Obama's) unsecured border crisis is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, 'no mas.'"

"It's time to impeach; and on behalf of American workers and legal immigrants of all backgrounds, we should vehemently oppose any politician on the left or right who would hesitate in voting for articles of impeachment," she continued.

Talk of Obama's impeachment has long been a hallmark of the far right, but has experienced a recent uptick of late.

After President Bill Clinton in 1998 became only the second president to be impeached, his public approval hit 73%, the highest rating of his administration, according to a CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll.

Pfeiffer, however, rejected the idea that impeachment would be a good thing for Obama and his lagging poll numbers.

"We take it very seriously and I don't think it would be a good thing," he said. "But I think it would be foolish to discount the possibility that Republicans would at least consider going down that path."

"Nobody said that they demanded war. But Bush used the same intelligence."

And additional intelligence that they manufactured...as well as additional intelligence they completely ignored and punished Plame for her husband's public statements about it. The tired, debunked and irrational attempt to make it sound like Bill Clinton is partly at fault for the Iraq war occurring is tired, debunked and irrational. It shows just how desperate the GOP/Teatrolls are to rewrite history to make it less inconvenient for them.

So what the liberals and Democrats support Obama's impeachment if it was proven that the IRS targeting of the TEA Party and conservatives was originated from and being run out of the White House?

    Hhhhhmmmmmm?????

"Btw, qhat did Clinton leave in place for stopping the coming 911 attack tjat he said he warned Bush about??"

BTW, the Iraq war and 911 have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with one another and your attempt to pivot to 911 in a debate about Dubya pushing us into an unnecessary was in Iraq is irrelevant and another sign of desperation. Moreover, I never said anything about how I apportion blame for 911 in terms of "actionable" intelligence or security failures, so your assumption about how I do apportion it is just that...an assumption. So yeah...making assumptions about something irrelevant to the argument is not exactly the best argument tactic.

I see. Is that why Obama has levied all sorts of economic sanctions against Russia that Putin is begging us to lift?

Your question is would we support impeachment if something that's been thoroughly disproven had been proven? What does that have to do with anything? Just so you know, though, the answer is: No thank you, I do not want to live with you in your alternate reality fantasy land.

Unfortunately, being an abysmal failure, the worste president since the end of WWII, named the Liar of the Year, a no-show on the job, refusing the stop the invasion of our country by illegals and turning the USA into the laughing stock of the world are not impeachable.

But the American people sure can hold the Democrats responsible come this November.

No actionable intelligence in them Rudy. Or do you personally know otherwise? Are you claiming Bush was told exactly what was coming, how and where and failed to act? Of course you're not because you know it isn't true. You just want to insinuate that for the low IQ voters out there.

This has not been thoroughly disproven so why are you lying about it? Until the IRS produces all of Lois Lerner's emails so that investigators can determine who she was communicating with on all this, the jury is still out. We already know she was colluding with the Justice Dept. and well as the FEC illegally. So who knows where else her illegality may have taken her? One thing is for sure though, it wasn't one rouge employee in Cinci as the Obama administration first stated.

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what I'm saying. The Bush administration would deny it, of course, because of the simple fact that they had ignored most of them and don't know what is them. Basically, when Bush was on vacation, no one was minding the shop.

    Low IQ voters like you?
What do you think that there was present in the national security briefings prior to 9/11? Do you honestly believe that there was NO info at all about an impending attack on US soil on ANY of them?
Alas, for you that is, it has been proven that there was enough warning on them to raise ANYone's (save the then POTUS) attention to that so-called Al Keda or something...
He just did not read them or did not understood what was in them.

Listen to yourself. You're saying that the accusations must be disproven. You're saying that people are guilty of anything that Issa accuses them of until they can prove themselves innocent. Besides, Issa cannot even prove that a crime of any kind has been committed, much point to a suspect who committed any of these alleged crimes.

There have been numerous accounts, reports, and articles revealing point by point the LIST of alerts ignored by Bush. OK the didn't say the exact day or buildings but the fact that he listened to conservative advisers and did nothing to investigate the reports of imminent attack makes him partially responsible. Of course I don't want to take anything away from the 100,000 people that died later as a direct result of his gross incompetence.

You've summed up the problems with this temper tantrum coming from the right in a nutshell.

    1. Republicans take pride in "stopping Obama's agenda".
    2. The President signs bills into law, and when no bills come his way he doesn't do anything, unless....
    3. The President signs an executive order that sets a policy, which is doing something, exactly what you demand.

Can you see the tail chasing the dog here? Yeah, I know I said it backwards. That's how stupid all of this is.
