Hillary Clinton: Putin 'bears responsibility' in downing of MH17

(CNN) - Russian President Vladimir Putin bears at least some responsibility for the shooting down of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Friday.

"I think if there were any doubt it should be gone by now, that Vladimir Putin, certainly indirectly - through his support of the insurgents in eastern Ukraine and the supply of advanced weapons and, frankly, the presence of Russian Special Forces and intelligence agents - bears responsibility for what happened," she told CNN's Fareed Zakaria in an exclusive interview that will air Sunday.

Clinton's comments come just over a week since Flight MH17 crashed in eastern Ukraine, killing all 298 on board. Pro-Russian militants have been accused of downing the plane using Russia-supplied armaments and of interfering with the subsequent investigation at the crash site.

U.S. President Barack Obama last week called the crash a "wake-up call for Europe and the world that there are consequences to an escalating conflict in eastern Ukraine," a view Clinton echoed in urging Europe to go further.

Seriously?!! It took the downing of that jetliner to be a wake-up call for Europe and the world? No, I don't think so. The world is quite awake and sees what is going on BUT CHOOSES TO LOOK THE OTHER WAY.

Obama and Europe have made meaningless token gestures that have done nothing but embolden Russia to even go further. Just more empty rhetoric from our empty suit President who continues to vote present before jetting off to his campaign fund raising. Problem is we have to endure 2.5 more years of this Obama nightmare and I'm sure Putin is really looking forward to re-establishing the old USSR in that time.

Well Hill I agree, and Obammy and holder are responsible for Agent Terry and how many others from the guns they gave to the Cartel ??? I would guess an ample amount of people have died due to those weapons. So to quote you WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE ??

Obama promises he'll get really, really mad if Russia does something that requires him to stop his epic campaign fund raising and hob knobbing with the rich Democrat donors. Actually, Putin can do pretty much anything he wants because he knows absolutely nothing will take Obama off the money circuit. Benghazi attack? Go to Las Vegas the next day to fund raise. Airliner downed, hundreds dead, off to campaign fund raisers. Southern border being invaded? Go to campaign fund raisers and shoot pool in Colorado, no need to go to the border for a photo op, but that pool shooting wasn't a photo op was it?

but shouldn't obama and hillary clinton also bear some of the responsibility for the downing of the airliner? would russia be doing what it is doing without the help and aid of obama and clinton over the last 5.5 years, 4 years with hillary as secretary of state. what did they do in that time to help keep ukraine strong and in the western camp, or even nato?

they knew putin and russia were dangerous because russia had already invaded georgia so they had ample warning. i guess they thought their stupid russian reset button was serious foreign policy! i mean they gave russia a free gift by cancelling the missile defense plans and threw our allies under the bus in doing it.

what you have here is total incompetence on obama's part as well as hillary clinton's part in accurately evaluating and dealing with an aggressive putin and russia. obama and hillary clinton were and have been dead wrong. mitt romney and sarah palin were 100% correct in their assessment of putin and russia. you will never see that in the op ed of the new york times even though it is 100% correct.

Putin has attacked Ukraine, with artillery, from Russian soil. That is clearly an aggressor act of war.

    Yes he dose !

When you give crazy people weapons such as he gave the pro Russian rebels , you need to be held accountable .

When you use pro Russian nationalism as a tool for your own political being , be carful , your playing with fire .

Knowing that Vladimir Putin's greatest admires and supports are Fidel Castro and Silvio Berlusconi says it all .

But never mind that, lets use this as another reason to blame Hillary and Obama for things completely unrelated to the article...

as she says they need to get tougher, she is agreeing with all of you haters. it was bush that gave putin georgia. please start seeing the issues for what they are, not opportunities to smack talk. alliance and sanctions are all we have. does anyone really want to spend tax payers dollars and american lives to save the ukraine from russia? well maybe mc cain and dj palin, but I mean anyone that isn't completely out of touch or insane. see now you got me doin it ... it's a viscous circle

Satellite images show that rockets have been fired from Russia into neighboring eastern Ukraine and that heavy artillery for pro-Russian separatists has crossed the border.

Sorry morons, Russia is not the threat you think it is or would like it to be...if they were to become so, they would be crushed militarily. But see, sane, smart people would like to aoid WW3. The only U.S. interests being served by our involvement in the Ukraine proxy-war are bankers and corporations.

There is too much showing that Putin has had and currently has some connection to these rebels. Wouldn't it be nice if these people want to be in Russia that they move?

The shooting down of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 is a war crime .

The killing of innocent non combative men , women and children by armed pro Russian militants .
