Appeals court rejects Virginia same-sex marriage ban

(CNN) - A federal appeals court on Monday struck down Virginia's ban on same-sex marriage in another legal victory for gay and lesbian couples seeking the right to legally wed.

"We recognize that same-sex marriage makes some people deeply uncomfortable. However, inertia and apprehension are not legitimate bases for denying same-sex couples due process and equal protection of the laws," the divided three-judge panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit in Richmond concluded.

The Democratic candidates and Democratic Party may be winning a legal victory now. Wait until after the November election and the voters and the will of the people will have to be dealt with by the Democratic Party. Change in the Senate and government is coming.

I don't know about that smith. But I do think any human being should have the right to be miserable with any other human they want to. 😀

And now you know why the gop wants hundreds of these open positions on the state benches to go unfilled, until of course they win the whitehouse, OK, see you in thirty years or so.

The far right wing in this country is far too arrogant to see just how severely they trample on the rights of others, all in the name of their "moral values." The Virginia law is another one down, many more still to go.

Marriage is one of the oldest tenets of civilization. You're talking about living like cavemen, where there was no definition for bigamy because there wasn't any definition of marriage. You "independent extremists" are a piece of work.

You gotta this guy. He gives most all of it back, and he figures "I'm innocent now," and expected to walk away scot-free.

Didn't you hear the news? All of those allegations of trips to visit underage (by U.S. standards) prostitutes in the Dominican Republic(?) turned out to be totally made up. None of it was true. Turns out that the story first appeared on a right wing blog 3 days before the senator's election. It gained no traction at the time, not until it resurfaced many months later.

Okay, suppose you are right... then what? Tax cuts for the rich. Repeal the ACA. And then on to invading... which will it be first? Gaza, Russia, Ukraine, Syria, Delaware?!?!? You know the chickenhawks are going to want to invade someone!!! They have been about to wet their pants because Obama will not send troops... somewhere. Anywhere!
They won't fix immigration or deal with the Veterans crisis or any of the real problems which face America. republicants talk a good game about 'leading', but they haven't lead the country anywhere in the last several decades except maybe off a cliff.
They'll probably put mandatory sentencing guidelines in on rape to... dropping it to a misdemeanor, seeing how a woman was likely 'asking for it', should 'just lay back and enjoy it', and should she get pregnant, she can always 'shut that thing down'...
providing, of course, that it was a 'legitimate rape'.

I feel sorry for the hate-filled, fear mongering, bigoted clowns in the GOP. I would not bet the farm on a republican takeover of the Senate . And by the way guys, your party will not see the inside of the White House before 2024. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Well said. This is why we need to vote against any theocracy leaning politicians. This country should stay a free land and not be turned into Christian Corporation.

People are mad? People were mad when women got the right to vote. People were mad when they were told to treat blacks and whites the same. Tell these people you refer to that the rest of The People want equal rights in a free country.

Nobody in America is FORCING ANYONE to marry if they don't want to. Slaves really had no choice, so you're once again comparing apples to orangutans.
