Emails show Lerner dissing conservatives

(CNN) – Conservative Republicans have been pretty tough on Lois Lerner over the IRS targeting scandal.

And now, it appears, the former tax official at the center of the controversy, was none too fond of a particular brand of conservatives, either.

An email exchange released by a Republican-led House committee investigating scrutiny by Lerner’s unit of GOP political groups seeking tax-exempt status suggest she’s no fan of conservative talk radio.

“Well, you should hear the whacko wing of the GOP … The right-wing radio shows are scary to listen to,” read an email to Lerner from an unidentified sender in November 2012 as Congress was probing the matter.

“Great. Maybe we are through if there are that many a**holes,” Lerner replies.

“And I’m talking about the hosts of the shows. The callers are rabid,” another email to Lerner, apparently from the same person, shows.

“So we don’t need to worry about alien terrorists. It’s our own crazies that will take us down,” Lerner responds.

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp, whose panel is looking into the IRS matter, said on Wednesday in a letter to the Justice Department that the example on Lerner’s official IRS email account demonstrates bias.

Lerner attorney: Client vilified by GOP out of convenience

The email exchange “directly demonstrates Ms. Lerner’s deep animus towards conservatives,” the Michigan Republican wrote.

Lerner resigned last year from the IRS and has so far refused to testify to Congress about the scandal that Republicans are aggressively investigating and Democrats call political overkill.

Her lawyer could not immediately be reached for comment about the emails.

Analyst claims some information on Lerner’s hard drive was retrievable

Issa: 'We'll probably never know' what happened to Lerner's hard drive

The IRS saga has intensified in recent weeks over controversy around other Lerner emails Republicans want to see as part of their probe but the IRS says were lost in the crash of her work computer’s hard drive.

CNN's Sean Kennedy contributed to this report.

She's telling the truth. The Tea Party has turned the once Grand Old Party into a laughing stock. Isn't she allowed an opinion? I didn't know having them was against the law. Unless they are negative towards Democrats, then they're fine.

What they still don't show: any involvement by Obama.

And yet, THAT is the supposed impetus for further investigation and continued accusations from the GOP/Teatrolls. They don't give a crap about Lerner. They want Obama and have accused Obama. They have yet to prove a thing to support the accusations tho.

Of course she's allowed to have an opinion. When that opinion is voiced while acting on behalf of the federal government using federal government resources, it's against the law... and shows a propensity of behavior to use her position to unjustly attack the foils of her opion, which is criminal. On whose behest is the only question.

I agree with her. If all you care about is making people vote against their own interests, then all you need to do is proliferate anger, falsehoods and confusion. Republicans don't actually have to stand for anything.
I think there is a reason the Republican Party cannot find a good candidate for president. No intelligent, moral person can stand in front of the world and say the ridiculous things needed to obtain the support of the radical and confused wing of today's Republican base of voters.

It’s like Mark Twain wrote, “Hain't we got all the fools in town on our side? And ain't that a big enough majority in any town?”

    No it's not.

LOL. Still on safari in the strawberry patch, eh? The elephants are hiding in there and you're 100% convinced they're there because you consider your inability to find them to be proof that they're hiding. Meanwhile, back on planet reality, lack of evidence of something means it's not true and hasn't and can't be proven to be true.

"When that opinion is voiced while acting on behalf of the federal government using federal government resources, it's against the law"

Not true, but it certainly might be interpreted as evidence that SHE acted with unlawful intent in running the department. It's not in any way, shape or form evidence or proof that Obama was involved at all. In fact, if she held such personal animus towards radicalized conservatives, it's quite suggestive of the fact that she acted alone.

...and why does she still have a job? Most companies would either write up or terminate an employee because of their "electronic mail policies". Such an email would get have gotten anyone fired at the places I worked in the past including local government.

This is another perfect example on why it is time to get rid of the IRS. All they do is waste money. Create a flat tax with no refunds. There is no reason for them to exist except to harass people and ripe them off. Went through an audit once. Took 3 years for the IRS to get it in to their head that it was their mistake not mine. Even after going to court and the court telling the IRS that they were wrong and I was right they still tried to screw me by talking my income tax refund. Had to get an advocate to go after them to get my money back. In the end I got it back and they just wasted 3 years of the tax payers money on harassing me.
