Chris Christie off to Mexico next month

(CNN) – New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will travel to Mexico next month to meet with the country's new president, his office announced Thursday.

The trip will focus on building economic relationships and is set to weave in cultural experiences, as well.

As the GOP works to bring in more minority voters–amid a tense debate over illegal immigration–Christie's trip may be an effort to showcase his pull among Latinos. He won 51% of the Latino vote in his re-election last year.

And he isn't the only potential 2016 presidential contender heading to Latin America.

Sen. Rand Paul will spend time in Guatemala later this month to perform pro-bono eye surgeries.

The Kentucky Republican said this week in Iowa that he may also meet with officials to discuss the crisis involving migrant youth from Central America who have streamed across the southern border this year and strained immigration services.

The trip was first reported by The New York Times.

Christie can shutdown lanes on the GWB. He'll probably shutdown the border completely.

"He won 51% of the Latino vote in his re-election last year."

Which, in light of and in comparison to the margins by which he won the election and other groups, is remarkably POOR relative performance with the Hispanic community.

And, of course, here we go with the idiocy about a trip to Mexico for some meet-and-greet glad-handing with its president and take in some sights somehow translating into "foreign relations experience." What I'd really like to see is how the Mexican president reacts if Governor Soprano proposes to him some of the extremist crap the GOP/Teatrolls are yammering about with respect to border security. That should go over swimmingly....

You got to be kidding. GOP wants to send dreamers by the thousands packing back to Mexico, what does he think that Latino's are as stupid as the GOP base. Nice try they are a lot smarter than that. Good luck you will need it.

only in the warped leftist mind is winning a majority of the hispanic vote "poor relative performance"!! can't you be honest at least once in your life and give credit where credit is due? don't you ever tire of trying to spin and lie? no, you don't.

about time a real american leader meets with the mexican president. obama hasn't been able to do squat except ship thousands of illegal weapons to mexico and get thousands of mexicans killed as a result. so he helps make mexico and central america a dangerous place then grants amnesty to illegals here and coming here. who says obama doesn't know what he is doing? he knows what he is doing! fundamentally transforming the country into a mexican/third word back water nation.

  12. Name JK. SFL. THE GOP THE NATIONAL JOKE PARTY , WE WONT PASS ANYTHING AND STILLGET PAID

Isn't it nice to elect a GOP govenor WHO is NEVER in YOUR state but off campaigning for another job while your own state goes DOWN THE TIOLET???? Just like the GOP TAX CHEAT Romney did in mass.he was never really the govenor in mass, he just had the title. The Lt. gov Healy actually ran the GOVENORS office for HALF his term while the BAFFOON traveled around the country campaigning for president on the tax payers DIME. I guess Christi is doing the same thing!!!!!

I think he should cross the pond, instead. I'd like to see try to outdo Mitt Romney's trip to London. The mayor of London was a really funny guy, but not half as funny as Mitt.

Cultural experiences, you mean like eating lots of tacos? I'll say it again: when you walk the walk you don't have to talk and talk, gwb, I'm sure he was making a huge contribution, and was in grave danger on a regular basis, your killing me . I'm sure he had as much chance of seeing combat as the next guy, sucker!

Christie heading to Mexico!!!!! What will he do there?? Why not first concentrate with the problem we have at the moment at home (kids on the border) instead of running to neighbouring country to find out whether they have problems there. The way I can see this man, can hardly think. Is that the person people want to be their President????

CLUELESS! Once again for the slow ones: F & F was about tracking guns bought (at real-live gun shops and perfectly legally) in Phoenix and Tucson by straw buyers, for the cartels in Mexico. Are you that ill-informed that you think this government or this nation GAVE GUNS to Mexico?
Here's another hint: Mr.Christie has no authority to do anything regarding diplomacy or trade in Mexico- he is wasting his citizens' tax dollars- but he's a member of the GOP-and that's what they do, right?
