Washington (CNN) – U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, is no stranger to the Sunday morning political talk show circuit, and viewers have apparently taken notice.
On Sunday, he appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union” from Jakarta, Indonesia, primarily to discuss the U.S. airstrikes on Iraq and President Obama’s foreign policy. However, during the interview, CNN’s Candy Crowley asked him about the frequency of his Sunday show appearances and his regular criticism of Obama.
“Senator McCain, lots of people, when we have you on, often say: ‘Why do you have him on so often?’ And we say because he answers our questions, because he expresses his views quite clearly,” Crowley said. “And very often, what we get back - and I think you get it on Twitter, too - is, ‘That's just John McCain. There isn't a thing this President could do that John McCain would approve of when it comes to foreign policy.’ Your reply?”
“There are a number of things that the President has done foreign policy-wise that I have not only approved of, but supported,” McCain said. He pointed to his support of Obama’s trade agreements, efforts in Asia and opposition to sequestration.
But he also insisted that since Obama became president, the geopolitical landscape has become worse.
“If I look at the world in January of 2009, and I look at the world today, I can tell you this, Candy. It's very, very different,” McCain said. “And I believe that's because, when the United States of America withdraws from leadership from the world, it creates a vacuum, and bad things happen.”
McCain choose Palin as his vice presidential running mate. Why he has any credibility left is a mystery.
As an Arizonan who has voted for McCain, I have to say that Maverick bit bites both ways. In the past, McCain spoke his mind- and mostly he made sense. Nowadays McCain predictably is against everything that the president does. Selecting Palin as a VP candidate was questionable. It is now pretty clear Mr. McCain is playing politics and party, not policy and leadership.
Nothing wrong with Obama foreign policy. O.k.
McCain is a tired old man whose only joy in life is finding reasons to send young men to war.
It is painful beyond belief for many people, especially ex-military people like McCain, to watch Obumbles screw up time after time after time, for 5.5 years, each time resulting in this country being put in more danger or weakened domestically or internationally. Obama poll numbers show a majority of American don't support anything he is doing, both domestically or internationally. And every day, the numbers get worse as Obama screws up yet again.
American or any other war interference especially boots on the ground does not work. Take a history lesson from a period from the 13th century to the early 1900's and research the Ottoman empire. It was run by a dictator and from around 1512 -1518 expanded the fundamentally Sunni Muslim Empire by attacking for the first time Shia Muslims by saying they were apostates, up till then Muslim fighting Muslim was not allowed. so here we are in the 21st century and the two sects are there but only one is fighting i.e the Sunni extremist ISOL, ISOL however is attacking Christians and others and violently demanding conversion... the ottomans did not do that they were fairly tolerant of other religions.
My points Sunni /Shia fighting will always go on and is why Muslim governance is best from a dictatorial head who is strong enough to keep the peace as best possible and that's why its important Maliki must go
McCain just likes to hear himself talk. Get off the stage, John.
Remember, what is happening today is was set in motion 10 to 20 years in the past and that is especially true of foreign policy.
Not many, if any of the comments to this story actually try to refute McCain's statements. This is what is wrong with America. This is what is wrong with Congress, but it's not Congress's fault because they are elected by people who act the same way. People would rather tear each other down, then talk about the issues. He/she/it is a bad person. No your he/she/it is a bad person. Nothing will ever get done until the people grow up and learn to think for themselves.
McCain is an orgasm of intellectual anarchy.
Obama doesn't lead and now even Hilary is dumping on his lack of leadership
How can President Obama not be a leader AND be a dictator at the SAME TIME?
Only in RIGHTY-REALITY I guess......
Im soooo curious what the catch phrases and talking points will be during Hillary's Presidency. (all 8 years of it)
Let's not forget, this McCain fool chose Sarah Palin for a Presidential running mate! ...Now, that's stupid!!!
U.S.Senator John McCain has a lot of stock in the war industry and there are a lot of military installations in his state. And besides why fight a war when someone else will do it for you with their own people and money and all you have to do is just sit there and watch the money roll in.
It seems like our government have short memory loss or something. Let me get this straight. So we are borrowing billions of dollars from the Chinese, increase taxes, cut budget on medicare and welfare, commit trillions of dollars on the military, invade other countries that were once not a threat but now a threat under the bush administration, because somehow United States is the international definition of "good", and if we withdraw leadership from the world, it creates a vacuum, and bad things happen? Haven't we made the same mistake back in Iran and Iraq? Wasn't that failure, proof enough that military means are not always the solution for every major international crisis? Come on folks. Are we really ignorant enough to fall for another Republican war-mongering, fear-instilling propaganda to commit the same mistake we made back in 2002? Please, as an extremely concerned citizen, please, ask yourselves these questions.
In my opinion, the best way to combat terrorism would not be by picking fights on other countries, but to set an example with a transparent democratic nation that other countries can look up to.
We have made too many mistakes to repeat this one again. This self-destructing plan must come to a stop.
When will this guy ever figure out that it dosent matter what he says?? Hes a nobody jumping on a soap box every day about something. And reason he was defeated by a LANDSLIDE public vote was nobody wanted america in another world wide war.! And he still just dont get it! Best thing that could be done to shut him up is assign him the diplomats position to Vietnam perminantly!! Send him to his worse nightmare forever! Wont be long before he is charged with some crime there. Then revoke diplomatic immunity. Shut him up perminantly..
Next ask Mitt. He's another sore loser who thought he was owed the Presidency. Actually I can't believe the MSM actually asked that question.
John, Your choice of choosing Sarah Palin for a running mate causes me to question all your decisions and statements as temporary insanity. Check with your doctor about dementia and its effects on common sense as many think you have slipped a cog more than once.
Mr. McCain does not have the confidence of the American public for him to be 'speaking' for what this country wants. He is as out of touch as the other's who sit in Wash DC, as they are served by domestic 'servants'. He should retire and let a new voice speak. We need some NEW blood in DC...not some old tired career politician who beats the drum of war constantly.
You picked ailing palin – your mind is gone
