After criticism of Obama policy, Hillary Clinton to party with President

Edgartown, Mass. (CNN) — Only days after offering a stinging rebuke of President Barack Obama’s foreign policy, Hillary Clinton plans to attend a party in Martha’s Vineyard alongside the President on Wednesday.

The former top diplomat, on the tiny Massachusetts island to promote her book, will find herself at the same social gathering as Obama and his wife, first lady Michelle Obama, on Wednesday night.

The party is at the island home of Vernon Jordan, who acted as an adviser to former President Bill Clinton during his White House years. He’s married to a cousin of Valerie Jarrett, a top Obama aide.

“The President and First Lady are very much looking forward to the occasion and seeing Former Secretary Clinton,” a White House official said.

Earlier in the day, Clinton is slated to promote her book, “Hard Choices,” in Vineyard Haven at the Bunch of Grapes bookstore.

Over the weekend, the former secretary of state appeared to harshly criticize her former boss’ foreign policy choices in an interview with “The Atlantic,” saying the decision not to arm Syrian rebels had led to Islamic militants taking over swaths of territory in the region.

"The failure to help build up a credible fighting force of the people who were the originators of the protests against Assad – there were Islamists, there were secularists, there was everything in the middle – the failure to do that left a big vacuum, which the jihadists have now filled," Clinton said.

She also took a hit at an oft-repeated phrase Obama uses to sum up his foreign policy choices — “don’t do stupid stuff.”

"Great nations need organizing principles, and ‘Don’t do stupid stuff’ is not an organizing principle," Clinton told The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg.

Wednesday's Clinton-Obama encounter was first reported by Politico.

Obama and his family have been vacationing in Martha’s Vineyard since Saturday.

White House Producer Kevin Liptak contributed to this report.

That is pretty harsh. I think the administration's policy has been more like "don't be Dick Cheney", who did stupid stuff.

obama doesn't have the guts to say anything to hillary because he knows she is 100% correct. michelle, who wears the pants in the family, will attack hildabeast though. she is going to be exhausted though if she attacks everybody that is distancing themselves from obama and his failed policies. his failed policies have rendered him a lame duck very early in his second term. he has become toxic to all democrat candidates running for re-election. people he endorsed get beaten.

Anyone with half a brain knows that her "rebuke" was simply a political move to further prepare herself for 2016.....
Not impressed by it, and as a Democrat, I am not impressed with her either.....she is just more of the same ol', same ol'.......
Now.....I would like to hear more from Bernie Sanders

Actually, the whole notion of "don't do stupid stuff" implies that Obama's foreign policy only does smart stuff, which is the furthest thing from the truth. That phrase is just more smoke and mirror lies from Obama. His foreign policies have been almost entirely stupid stuff that failed, endangered America and hurt our allies. The world is far worse off today than when he took office. His apology tour and refusal to act has yielded no benefits, just bigger and more dangerous threats.

@just saying..the fact that you keep saying President Obama's policy is failed...makes me realize his policy will come to fruition of success.

I can hardly wait to see Bill Clinton take on Obama as well. You know it is coming. Obama played the race card on him in 2008 and you know Obama is going to renege on their deal to back Hillary in 2016.

Bill Clinton's description of Obama as an amateur was an understatement. He tried to warn the country but we refused to believe him and we have now paid the price.

As 2016 approaches, Obama's Approval Rating continues to drop, and Hillary struggles to remain relevant... prepare Hillary to start stabbing Obama between the shoulders with reckless abandon.

    H. Clinton needs to attend this party for the Dems sake. Dems can see the split that grows larger every day in their party. They need to mend it before one breaks off like what happend in the GOP.

I'm watching Hill carefully and detachedly.
She has a right to her opinion, but what are her solutions?
The President was being judicious even if his wording was not the best when he stated that we will NOT do stupid stuff in regards to our foreign policy.
I have said and will maintain that Rethuglicans have done everything possible to have this administration engage militarily due to a knee jerk, not completely thought-out reaction. A la Bush.
"Don't do stupid stuff" is a departure from that era and that modus operandi.
Insofar as Hill and Barack hanging out together, this is what civilized people do Republicans.
They can agree to disagree, work together on commonalities and share a drink and talk about the kids every once in while.

And let me further add, low polling numbers and all, the President still has PLENTY of pull and supporters.
He will NEVER, no matter what the screeching memees on this thread and their multiple personalities will have you believe, drop to a level where she will feel entirely comfortable alienating those that support him with cash and their vote.
Of course she will share a social moment with him, and have her picture taken too.
The man still has enough clout and pull to beat ANYTHING the Republicans put up.
Too bad about that two-term limit thing, or should I say lucky thing about that two-term limit thingy.

Annie Mouse – Bernie puts fear in the minds of brain dead republicans. Anyone, like Sanders, who tries to help Americans is now anti American according to the RWNJs. Republicans are unfit to govern.

-lady, without being asked, I furnish this very valuable advise–listen, carefully, "Nothing wrong with pres. Obama's foreign policy". Yes, nothing wrong with it, if I were president, I do the same. Listen none of the Muslim world is ready for Democracy. Polygamy is allowed there, regardless of family financial matters. Talaq is easy to get there. Don't find fault with Obama foreign policy. Use this president in Campaign, don't do the same mistake of Al Gore. He is scared of Monica scandal–now, no one cares–it is quite normal. Good lucks, yes, Hillary16.

Since republicans have no accomplishments to run on other than government shutdowns, unnecessary wars, repealing ACA, tax cuts for those who least need it; you see they long for the days of stupid republican stuff like the Bush Doctrine.

Actually, it was Bill Clinton who played the race card by saying that Obama was going to fail just like Jesse Jackson did. Why the comparison to Jackson, and not someone else? Granted, Jackson didn't make a good candidate. He was a leader of minds, but not people, and so he faired poorly. They two men shared little in common aside form the color of their skin.

--Obama is NOT lame luck, entire Congress from the day one is Lame-Duck, hostage to entire nation, do you you know this fact? These republican thugs openly said one-term president, nation did not care luckily. What policy is failure? Tell me. Healthcare? Killing Bin Laden? Bailing banks, Saving wall street? Putting regulations not to fail this Twenty trillion economy? Saving patients of pre-existing condition? Pulling troops from Iraq/Afghanistan? Nonsense rant based on color, no brain. Just shut up. Knock on the wood, GOP voice irrelevant at this juncture.

As am I. I'm coining myself a casual observer post-Obama (who, as we all know, IS on his last term and thus no longer running a campaign for or against Hillary). The same applies to Hillary. I am fully capable of differentiating between the two without GOPerville talking point rhetoric leading me on a dog and pony show I have no interest in.

That being said, I am also on record of watching and weighing in who is coming from (and what is happening in) GOPerville.

I too noticed the more you talk about helping the little guy, the more evil you are to the Republican party. I fail to see how trying to do something for the least fortunate is made out to be anything but Christian lime behavior, crazy how some of the low wattage people eat their propaganda like candy.
