McDaniel formally challenges Mississippi runoff results in GOP Senate primary

(CNN) - Chris McDaniel's campaign formally challenged the runoff results from Mississippi's U.S. Senate primary that showed he lost to incumbent Thad Cochran.

"Republicans did not elect the nominee on June 24," McDaniel said in a statement on Thursday.

(CNN) – Charlie Crist is robo-calling Florida voters, talking about his conservative values as he wages another campaign for governor.

The only problem is Crist is now a Democrat, and the recorded phone message is actually from 2006, when he was a Republican.

Steve King: Ferguson protesters of same 'continental origin'

(CNN) - Rep. Steve King dismissed suggestions that racial profiling has played a role in clashes between police and protesters in Ferguson, Missouri, after the shooting of an unarmed teen.

In an interview on Wednesday with the conservative network Newsmax TV, the conservative Republican congressman suggested, based on video he's seen of demonstrations in the St. Louis suburb, that racial profiling isn't a factor because all of the protesters are of the same "continental origin."

Rand Paul on Ferguson: Police too militarized

(CNN) – There’s a “legitimate” need for authorities “to keep the peace,” but the law enforcement response to racially-charged street protests over the police shooting of an unarmed Missouri teenager illustrates something more pervasive and troubling, Sen. Rand Paul said.

Writing Thursday in an opinion piece in Time, Paul noted that the wild scene of police in tactical gear apparently firing teargas and rubber pellets and pointing automatic weapons at people in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson resembled a “war more than a traditional police action.”

Obama takes measured tone on clashes in Ferguson

(CNN) – President Obama on Thursday urged calm and peace in Ferguson, Missouri, where clashes between protestors and police continue to escalate in the wake of the shooting of Michael Brown.

The President condemned all parties involved in the recent unrest.

Sen. Mary Landrieu to reimburse Senate for charter flight

(CNN) - Sen. Mary Landrieu will reimburse the Senate more than $5,700 for a charter flight she paid for with taxpayer money after CNN questioned the expense.

The Louisiana Democrat chartered a private plane last September to travel from New Orleans to Shreveport, where she attended an official event. She then traveled on to Dallas, where she attended a fundraiser.

Gap shrinks between Hillary Clinton and Republicans

(CNN) – While Hillary Clinton still maintains an advantage over potential GOP rivals in 2016, a new poll shows that her lead is narrowing.

And as her book tour has received extensive coverage, her support has dropped below 50%, according to the McClatchy-Marist poll released Thursday.
