Stepping up political game, Hillary Clinton agrees to help in midterms

Washington (CNN) – Hillary Clinton has been able to exist slightly above politics for the last six years.

That will soon be coming to an end.

Clinton, the former secretary of state and frontrunner for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016, has committed to play a sizable role in fundraising for the party ahead of the 2014 elections, according to sources and aides for different campaign groups.

Ron Paul defends Rick Perry, calls indictment 'a joke'

(CNN) – Ron Paul is no fan of Gov. Rick Perry, but the three-time presidential candidate is coming to the side of his fellow Lone Star State Republican.

A grand jury indicted the Texas governor Friday on two felony counts involving abuse of power, stemming from his veto of funding for a statewide public integrity unit run by Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg, a Democrat.

Christie on Ferguson: Not going to generalize ‘against law enforcement officers’

(CNN) – Asked if there was a general problem in the United States with the way police deal with young African-American men, Gov. Chris Christie argued people shouldn’t be quick “to make generalizations.”

“Whatever happened in Ferguson, we have a justice system in this country that will be able to make that judgment, and if there are people who need to be held accountable, I'm confident they will be,” the New Jersey Republican said in a response to a question by WNYC’s Matt Katz.

Hillary Clinton is front and center in House super PAC ad

Washington (CNN) - Hillary Clinton isn't running for Congress in Virginia's 10th district. But you wouldn't know that based on a Democratic super PAC web ad targeting the race.

Clinton, the former secretary of state and likely presidential contender in 2016, is featured prominently in a House Majority PAC web ad released Monday that looks to target Barbara Comstock, the Republican nominee for the northern Virginia seat.

Hillary Clinton makes big political move, heads to Iowa

(CNN) – Hillary Clinton will headline Sen. Tom Harkin's Iowa Steak Fry next month, according to organizers, a move the steps up Clinton's political activity ahead of the 2016 presidential race.

Former President Bill Clinton will also speak at the September 14 event, according to a release about the steak fry.

Obama on hiatus from vacation with Iraq, Ferguson on his agenda

Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama returned to the White House late Sunday night, taking the unusual step of interrupting his Martha's Vineyard vacation for two days.

The short visit was announced on August 6, the day before Obama authorized targeted airstrikes in Iraq aimed at protecting U.S. personnel and preventing a potential genocide of minorities by terrorist group ISIS.
