Bush takes plunge, challenges Clinton

(CNN) - Former President George W. Bush took the ice bucket challenge, and is now challenging his predecessor in the White House to follow in his footsteps.

In a video posted on his Facebook page, Bush takes a soaking from his wife, former First Lady Laura Bush, and then nominates former President Bill Clinton to take the challenge.

The challenge is raging this summer on social media, as people get doused with a bucket of ice water in order to bring awareness – and raise money – to combat amyotropic lateral sclerosis, better known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease.

Politicians get soaked

$15 million pours in from ice bucket challenge

"Thanks to Jenna Bush Hager, Rory McIlroy, Woody Johnson, and Coach Jim Harbaugh for the #IceBucketChallenge," wrote Bush on his Facebook page.

In the video, Bush said "to you all who've challenged me, I do not think it's presidential for me to be splashed with ice water, so I'm simply going to write you a check.”

Moments later, after she pours a bucket of ice water on top of her husband, the former first lady said "that check is from me. I don't want to ruin my hairstyle."

Bush then called on Clinton to get wet, saying, "Now it's my privilege to challenge my friend Bill Clinton to the ALS challenge. Yesterday was Bill's birthday and my gift to Bill is a bucket of cold water."

Celebs embrace ice bucket challenge

Bush's successor in the White House so far has decided to stay dry. President Barack Obama has declined to take the challenge, but instead has made a donation to an ALS charity, according to the White House.

Bush's chilly dunking was arranged, in part, by his daughter Jenna Bush Hager, an NBC "Today" show correspondent.

@Tom l-Well, this is what happends when Rudy can`t defend his attack. He starts to spin, shuffle, name call, and label other posters. This all started with the fact that both Dem and GOP potus have used military force and have caused loss of life. Instead of accepting this fact he starts spewing out useless fodder. smh.

Just saying, we finally agree, he's not worth the ice. He should be upside down at a 45° incline, blindfolded, strapped to a weight bench, just saying.

I hardly think Mr. Brown was going to take his college seriously, what kind of person who's supposed to be trying to better himself will bully like he did, and risk his future for a 50$ box of cigars. Maybe he's like so many I see at our community college, all about the student loans, 4,5 even 6 thousand for living expenses, for two years, more? They take the money and run, some I know showed up for the first class, gave BS excuses for the next two weeks, cash the check, she got better the next time. The second time she never even bought a book, which is also paid for from student aide through the school, its a virtual cash cow. Maybe we saved a few bucks on this one.

    1. Apparently you know nothing of college or the hazing that (still) takes place in fraternities (both white and black).

    2. If you think a box of cigarellos or blunts costs $50 (or justifies being shot in cold blood) then you clearly prefer bath salts over weed.

Well done Mr. President and Mrs. Bush.

Thank you, a dear friend found out last week that her father has ALS. He's 51 and they have given him less than 2 years...

As hard as it for them to face the real ALS challenge, they are enjoying the knowledge so many are responding with open hearts, wallets and laughter for this cause.

Wait for it, wait for it. Any minute now, wait for it. They'll finish up by calling me a liar again. I predicted their own willful ignorance, and now they're patting themselves on the back.

Actually, smith, this all started when you refused to acknowledge any difference between a military intervention and an outright military invasion. Yeah, both sides have used force, but George W. Bush made history by becoming the first POTUS in history to launch an outright invasion against a sovereign nation that had not attacked us.

Pretty sure he was just pointing out that the only people talking about amnesty are GOPers/Teatrolls who label anything that results in more brown voters as "amnesty," even a thirteen year road to citizenship that requires paying all back taxes, some fines and taking classes and passing tests, etc., not to mention staying out of trouble.

To Devil's advocate and all like him on here. It never ceases to amaze me at the amount of venomous hatred spewing from the keyboards of people on here. I don't honestly understand how such miserable people can bear to draw their next breath. It's quite disheartening to imagine even a tiny percentage of the American population actually writing, believing and agreeing with even some of this hateful, prejudiced, racist filth.

Shame on all of you. Pity and shame actually.

Thank-you for being honest. Someone was simply trying to manufacture an "I'm a victim" argument out of thin air, which seems to be a very common practice on the right, by accusing the other side of statements that they never made.

I think you've received nothing but praise from "the gang" concerning your military service, and "tom" has never been insulted for being Jewish that I am aware of. This should be a teachable moment for you concerning the right wing.
