(CNN) - Republican Scott Brown appears to be closing the gap in his U.S. Senate race against Democratic incumbent Jeanne Shaheen in New Hampshire, according to a new survey released Thursday.
The WMUR Granite State Poll indicates Shaheen leads Brown 46% to 44%, with 9% of likely voters undecided. Because the margin is within the survey's sampling error, the candidates are statistically tied.
Washington (CNN) – It’s a “very real possibility” that individuals with the extremist group ISIS may have crossed into the United States at the southern border, Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Thursday, though he added he doesn’t have any evidence.
Because the border is insecure, Perry said that “individuals from ISIS or other terrorist states could be” taking advantage of the situation. “I think it's a very real possibility that they may have already used that,” he told an audience at the Heritage Foundation in Washington.
“We have no clear evidence of that,” he continued.
Edgartown, Massachusetts (CNN) – National Security Council spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden tells CNN that U.S. policy on ransom for hostage takers is clear. She said Thursday that it "does not grant concessions to hostage takers.”
“Doing so would only put more Americans at risk of being taken captive," she said.
(CNN) - Gil Fulbright is coming to the Granite State.
The satirical Senate candidate, who also made an appearance earlier this year in Kentucky, is pretending to run for office under the banner of the anti-corruption group Represent.Us. He will appear in a television ad airing across New Hampshire starting this Friday.
(CNN) - Rick Perry’s lawyers pushed back against a central accusation by Democrats that the Texas governor’s office was being investigated about questionable funding for a cancer research project.
The accusations over the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas, CPRIT, are tangential to the two felony charges against the longtime Republican governor over his veto of funding for the Public Integrity Unit. His lawyers Thursday called the cancer funding accusations a “red herring.”
(CNN) - The leading outside group supporting Democrats in this year's battle for control of the Senate says it's putting big bucks behind a new ad that attacks the GOP challenger in North Carolina, home to one of the most crucial races.
CNN has learned that the Senate Majority PAC will launch a new television commercial Thursday that slams North Carolina House Speaker Thom Tillis over state education cuts. He's the Republican Senate nominee who's challenging first term Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan. If the GOP can flip the seat in North Carolina and five others, without losing any ground, they will win control of the Senate in November's midterm elections.
