Why it took Obama so long to address his 'no strategy' comments

WASHINGTON (CNN) - It took five days for President Barack Obama to address the controversy he caused by saying "we don't have a strategy yet" to defeat ISIS.

Wednesday, the President attempted to clarify what he meant by specifying that he was referring to ISIS inside Syria while highlighting the U.S. strategy in Iraq of airstrikes to weaken the extremist terror group that calls itself the Islamic State.

    Response to threats:
Obama – consider options and do not jump into something without formulating a plan first
Bush – bomb 'sumptin' then pretend 1000's of soldiers dying in wrong country = mission accomplished

At least he was back at work. The old ma from AZ eek to have a lot o time on his hands. One TV show after another reminding us how lucky we are that he and that thing from AK were never elected to run our country.
Congress does have all he time in the world to do even more of nothing. Can't wait for them to come back and clog our DC streets again with their limos and chauffeurs.

    Well,
    Lemmee guess,
He is not playing with a full deck. He had to go on another campaign. The rich ain't payin' their fair share. If you like your health plan, you can keep your health plan, period. We need to raise the minimum wage. Raising the National Debt is unpatirotic. Gosh this is so hard.

@Smitty: "Once again the BIGGEST LIAR OF THE YEAR shows his ineptness, how could he have a plan ??? Hes too busy screwing up America. Oh and then theres golf."

    Enough with the golf, already!

"I see our president criticized for playing golf. I don't. I think he ought to play golf. Because I know what it's like to be in the bubble. I know the pressures of the job, and to be able to get outside and play golf with some of your pals is important for the president. It does give you an outlet."

And if President Obama laid out his strategy in explicit detail, the RWNJs would be wailing on about how he shouldn't reveal his hand!

    Damned it you do ...

No strategy for fighting ISIS inside of Syria. Now that makes more sense than just saying "no strategy".
    -------------------------------
When he said last week that there was "no strategy" he was responding to a direct question about taking military action in Syria. The right wing, and far too many people on the left, have misrepresented the original statement.

@ sifto77, and you are out in force blindly opposing someone simply because he has a "D" next to his name. Have you ever once bothered to look at someone and listen to the merits of their arguments, or do you simply do the easy thing and hate them out of instinct?

A repub prez would just blindly go to war with promises of it paying for itself, being greeted as liberators, over in 3-6 weeks ...

President Obama knows what he's doing – you guys just aren't used to someone in the Oval Office who can think.

Meanwhile...some whackjob harpy from Faux spent all day Sunday on Twitter yelling in all-caps about how Obama should do "something."

"Something" – the GOP/Teatrolls' informed and detailed contribution to the discussion....and that pretty much applies to everything from the ACA to Zimbabwe.

Of course, then Obama does "something" and no matter what it is, they attack it. So convenient. Refuse to govern, criticize all attempts to do so no matter what and then break governance structure as much as possible, all while screeching "gov't is broken...see, we broke it!!!!!"

"The libs are out in force blindly supporting a pres who knows not what to do"

Yawn. There's a difference between pretending to be decisive because you supposedly know what's gong on and (b) actually knowing what's going on before making decisions. Teatrolls wouldn't know it if it climbed up their backsides and laid eggs. Seriously. Dubya/Cheney/Rummy all blew so much smoke up the nation's collective crapper that we've still got smoke rings coming out our ears and you have the gall to complain that someone's actually trying to make careful, knowledgeable decisions about these issues instead of just shooting first and asking questions later? Get real.

These are EASILY decisions that will or could cost us $1T or more and suddenly the GOP/Teatrolls just don't care at all about scrutinizing the spending to make sure it would be effective, efficient and clearly circumscribed...because why? Something something scary brown non-Christians, that's why.

    @rs
Those deriding the "no strategy" statement are simply doing so for the sake of it. Clearly, there can be "no strategy" until: the requisite allies get together to cobble together a plan, troop levels, funds and leadership issues; Congress comes back from its "endless summer" and gives the President the authority to extend the actions already occurring beyond 60 days; The President, the Congress and the military sell the idea of yet another ground war in the Middle East as a solution to -anything.

By facily attacking the President for what appears to be an is an attempt to have a thoughtful process in place to deal with IS is to venerate the disasters of the Bush/Cheney/neocon wars in Iraq and Afghanistan- i.e. wars without supplies; wars without sufficient troops; wars without plans; wars without logical ends- and wars without funding. Only blithering idiots support that sort of action.
    ************************
Blaming Bush is not going to work any longer. As stated before, Obama has been dealing with Iraq since 2009. The Syrian civil war has been going on for three years. ISIS captured the Iraqi city of Fallujah in January of this year and the city of Mosul three months ago. You would think that with all this going on that someone in the Obama Administration might have thought about countering ISIS. The Pentagon has a plan to deal with ISIS, but what is lacking is the civilian leadership to address this threat.

And by the way, I don't here Obama bragging anymore about getting us "out " of Iraq.
