
Washington (CNN) - Attorney General Eric Holder was involved in the Justice Department's decision to seek a search warrant for Fox News reporter James Rosen's private e-mails, a Justice official told CNN.
The decision to apply for the search warrant was vetted at the department's highest levels, including Holder, the official said, although the decision to issue a warrant was made by a federal magistrate judge.

(CNN) – The U.S. Senate race in Massachusetts took a nasty turn this week when the Republican candidate equated his Democratic rival to "pond scum" for a web video that pictured him on screen with Osama bin Laden.
Saying he couldn't think of anything more offensive, Gabriel Gomez told a reporter he was worried his four kids would see the ad, which hits Gomez for his work with a group that accused President Barack Obama of "politically capitalizing on U.S. national security operations and secrets" after the bin Laden raid.

Washington (CNN) - A large gun advocacy group is hitting its first Democrat in their most recent campaign to increase gun control measures.
Mayors Against Illegal Guns, founded by independent New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, announced an ad Friday criticizing Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor for his recent vote against gun legislation in the Senate, including expanding background checks.

(CNN) - A rash of sexual assaults in the armed forces undermines Americans' confidence in the military, President Barack Obama told newly commissioned officers at the U.S. Naval Academy Friday.
"Those who commit sexual assault are not only committing a crime, they threaten the trust and discipline that makes our military strong," Obama told the graduates, who were commissioned as Naval ensigns and Marine Corps second lieutenants.
