"That’s why I like getting out of the Washington echo chamber whenever I can – because too often, our politics aren’t focused on the same things you are," he said Saturday in his weekly address, referring to his jobs tour that took him to Baltimore this week. "Working hard. Supporting your family and your community. Making sure your kids have every chance in life."

(CNN) - Diverging from the generally non-political college sendoff, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a gun-control advocate, Saturday tore into members of Congress for failing to pass background check legislation.
Giving a commencement address at Kenyon College in Ohio, Bloomberg recounted a shooting last year by a 17-year-old who opened fire at an Ohio high school, killing three and injuring others.

(CNN) – Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal will deliver biting criticism to President Barack Obama for recent controversies surrounding his administration in a speech Saturday to Virginia Republicans as they nominate GOP candidate Ken Cuccinelli in the state's gubernatorial race.
According to Jindal’s prepared remarks provided to CNN, the Republican governor will address the IRS’ extra scrutiny of conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status, calling for jail time for members of the IRS involved in the targeting.

(CNN) - Republicans capped the week with another attack against President Obama's health care reform, criticizing the law and its relationship with the Internal Revenue Service.
"It's the IRS that will be responsible for enforcing many of these regulations. If we've learned anything this week, it's that the IRS needs less power, not more," Rep. Andy Harris of Maryland, an anesthesiologist of nearly 30 years' experience, said Saturday in the Republican weekly address.

(CNN) – One flashpoint at Friday’s House hearing on IRS targeting of conservative political groups seeking tax-exempt status occurred between acting agency chief Steven Miller and Republican Rep. Paul Ryan.
The Wisconsin Republican and former vice presidential nominee was frustrated that Miller, who was briefed on the controversial IRS practices last May, failed to mention it in subsequent letters to Congress and in hearing testimony just two months later.
