Washington (CNN) - Major conservative donor and multi-millionaire Foster Friess is planning to donate $1 million to help the victims of the tornado in Moore, Oklahoma and is challenging others to match that amount.
In an email to supporters Tuesday Friess announced his donation. He said he and his wife haven't decided exactly where the funds will go but hopes to have some answers in the next 48 hours.

Washington (CNN) - As the Senate Judiciary Committee neared completion of its consideration of comprehensive immigration reform legislation on Tuesday, it remained unclear whether the panel's top Democrat would move forward with a pair of controversial gay rights amendments vehemently opposed by congressional Republicans.
The amendments, offered by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vermont, would recognize same-sex marriages in which one spouse is an American, and also would allow U.S. citizens to sponsor foreign-born same-sex partners for green cards given proof of a committed relationship.

New York (CNNMoney) - Apple executives defended the company's tax strategy on Capitol Hill Tuesday, claiming that it pays one of the highest effective tax rates of any major corporation.
The Senate called a hearing Tuesday to examine the iPhone maker's strategy of shifting income to an Irish subsidiary to avoid paying U.S. taxes. Apple officials said the company shifted money to its overseas operations, such as those in Ireland, not to avoid taxes but because of the growth of Apple's sales overseas.

FULL STORY(CNN) - Facing questions on his position about federal disaster aid Tuesday, Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma confirmed he would want to offset any relief money with cuts to other parts of the budget but quickly added now was not the time do be discussing such matters.
"It's insensitive to even talk about it now," Coburn said in an exclusive interview with CNN's Chief Congressional Correspondent Dana Bash on Capitol Hill. "It just shows the crassness of Washington versus the sensitivity that we need to have."

Washington (CNN) - The former head of the IRS said Tuesday that he was aware of some aspects of his agency's targeting of conservative groups in the spring of 2012, and took what he called the correct action of ensuring that the inspector general for the agency looked into it.
However, Douglas Shulman denied full awareness of what was happening at the time, saying subordinated failed to inform him of the details.

(CNN) – Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma said Tuesday morning there was "still a lot of uncertainty" in the aftermath of the disastrous tornado that barreled through Moore, Oklahoma.
But one thing he knows for sure is the area has a long way to go in terms of recovery and emphasized a need to raise a lot of money in the wake of the storm.

Washington (CNN) – Describing the tornado that swept across the Oklahoma plains as "one of the most destructive storms in history," President Barack Obama said Tuesday the state "needs to get everything it needs right away" to recover from the devastating twister.
The president, speaking from the State Dining Room at the White House, said he doesn't yet know the "full extent" of the damage or the "human and economic losses that may have occurred."
