“That’s why I like getting out of the Washington echo chamber whenever I can – because too often, our politics aren’t focused on the same things you are,” Obama said in his weekly address. “Working hard. Supporting your family and your community. Making sure your kids have every chance in life.”

(CNN) - Republicans capped the week with another attack against President Obama's health care reform, criticizing the law and its relationship with the Internal Revenue Service.
"It's the IRS that will be responsible for enforcing many of these regulations. If we've learned anything this week, it's that the IRS needs less power, not more," Rep. Andy Harris of Maryland, an anesthesiologist of nearly 30 years' experience, said Saturday in the Republican weekly address.

(CNN) – One flashpoint at Friday’s House hearing on IRS targeting of conservative political groups seeking tax-exempt status occurred between acting agency chief Steven Miller and Republican Rep. Paul Ryan.
The Wisconsin Republican and former vice presidential nominee was frustrated that Miller, who was briefed on the controversial IRS practices last May, failed to mention it in subsequent letters to Congress and in hearing testimony just two months later.

Washington (CNN) – Directly mentioning the Newtown, Connecticut shootings for the first time in a campaign ad, Democratic Massachusetts Senate candidate Ed Markey criticized his Republican opponent Gabriel Gomez for opposing gun-control legislation.
"Gomez is against battling assault weapons," the ad says. "And Gomez is against banning high-capacity magazines like the ones used in the Newtown school shooting."

Washington (CNN) – Speaking at the historically black Bowie State University commencement Friday, first lady Michelle Obama called out African American youth for not challenging themselves to excel in school while instead fantasizing about being a "baller or a rapper."
"Today, more than 150 years after the Emancipation Proclamation, more than 50 years after the end of Separate But Equal, when it comes to getting an education too many of our young people just can't be bothered," Obama said. "Today instead of walking miles every day to school they're sitting on couches for hours playing video games, watching TV instead of dreaming of being a teacher or lawyer or business leader they're fantasizing about being a baller or a rapper."

(CNN) – The ongoing dispute over how and where to debate the independent review of last September's attack in Benghazi continued Friday with the subpoena of the review board's co-chair to be deposed by congressional investigators.
Thomas Pickering, a former ambassador, has said he would prefer to testify in a public hearing of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform rather than submit to a private interview, but the panel's chairman, Rep. Darrell Issa, wants the meeting behind closed doors before any open session.
