
(CNN) - President Barack Obama on Saturday mourned the week's attacks on a U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya which killed four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador to the country.
"These four Americans represented the very best of our country," he said in his weekly address, naming Glen Doherty, Tyrone Woods, Sean Smith, and Ambassador Chris Stevens.

(CNN) – New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who was rumored to be a potential V.P. pick for Mitt Romney, gave new details Monday on the moment he learned his name would not appear on the ballot as Romney's running mate.
At a press conference in Asbury Park, New Jersey, Christie said Romney e-mailed him on Aug. 10, the night before the presumptive GOP nominee announced Rep. Paul Ryan as his pick.

Oxford, Ohio (CNN) – A few days ago, Sen. Rob Portman was touted as being on the short list under consideration as Mitt Romney’s running mate. Despite being passed over when the nod went to Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, Portman was on hand and enthusiastic Wednesday at a GOP rally in Ohio featuring now-vice-presidential candidate Ryan.
Appearing together at Ryan’s alma mater - Miami University of Ohio - Portman praised the House Budget Committee chairman for his work on Capitol Hill and called him “a good friend.”

(CNN) – In their first joint interview as the 2012 Republican ticket, Mitt Romney and Rep. Paul Ryan on Sunday addressed questions about Ryan's Medicare proposal, which at least one critic says would "end Medicare as we know it" and others have speculated could present Romney electoral challenges in senior citizen-rich Florida.
Ryan, however, has said major changes are necessary to rein in levels of federal spending on the program which premium payments and payroll taxes cannot cover. He used a personal example to make the point in his Sunday interview.

(CNN) - Sarah Palin, the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee, had little to say to her 2012 counterpart in a statement released nearly twelve hours after Mitt Romney made his running mate announcement.
