Report: Ethics troubles complicated Christie's chances for 2012 ticket

Washington (CNN) - Ethics troubles complicated New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's chances of becoming Mitt Romney's running mate last year, The New York Times reports is in an upcoming chronicle of the 2012 presidential campaign.

The Times reported that too many questions remained after Christie completed the vetting process and Romney had lingering concerns.

Report: Obama campaign considered replacing Biden with Hillary Clinton

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama's closest advisers may have secretly considered replacing Vice President Joe Biden with Hillary Clinton on the 2012 ticket, but White House spokesman Jay Carney said Friday that it was never a remote possibility.

"Campaigns test everything," Carney said on CNN's "New Day." "When it comes to this particular issue, do campaigns test everything? Yes."

While he said the idea was "tested," Carney insisted that it wasn't going to happen.

CNN wins Emmy for 'Election Night' coverage

(CNN) – Some 11 months after President Barack Obama beat out Mitt Romney, CNN itself emerged as a winner - taking home an Emmy for its Election Night coverage, as well as two others for its coverage of race in America and unrest in Syria and Afghanistan.

The Election Night honor wasn't CNN's only Emmy victory.

Poll: Uphill climb for GOP's Hispanic outreach

Washington (CNN) – After Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney lost the Latino vote by more than 40% in 2012, the Republican Party has started an effort to rebrand itself to be more attractive to the growing demographic.

But that's not going to be easy, according to the results of a new poll released Friday, and will require the Republican Party to turn back the a belief among Latinos that the party doesn't care about them.

(CNN) - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a top campaign surrogate for former GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, threatened to say "f***" during his live, prime time convention speech last August, according to an upcoming book by The Washington Post's Dan Balz.

The title, "Collision 2012," details a tense moment when the director of the Republican National Convention ordered his crew to cut an introduction video for Christie just minutes before he was set to take the stage.

Tennessee man charged in Romney tax return extortion scheme

Washington (CNN) - A Tennessee man was indicted Wednesday, accused of making a false claim that he had obtained tax returns for then-Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and then trying to extort money for them, federal prosecutors said.

Michael Mancil Brown, 34, of Franklin is charged with six counts of wire fraud and six counts of extortion. It was not immediately clear Wednesday whether Brown had an attorney.

Washington (CNN) - The top Republican Party official on Saturday urged conservatives to unite behind his plan to revitalize the party and deliver electoral success in the upcoming midterm and presidential elections.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said the party must avoid the situation of 2012 GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney, where he was left sitting as a "duck on the pond."

Perry: Politicians aren't perfect

Washington (CNN) - Gov. Rick Perry of Texas made light at a major gathering of conservatives on Saturday of his sometimes rocky 2012 run for the White House.

"I've learned a little bit about humility particularly on national television," he quipped to laughter at the Faith and Freedom Coalition's annual conference, which is one of the largest gatherings of social conservatives.
