Santorum splits with Palin on his pick in Arizona Senate primary

(CNN) – Rick Santorum on Friday threw his voice behind Senate hopeful Wil Cardon in Arizona, who's running in heated primary to replace retiring Republican Sen. Jon Kyl, the Senate minority whip.

"Wil is exactly what Washington, DC needs – an outsider beholden to no one other than the Arizona residents he hopes to represent," Santorum said. "We look forward to helping him become not only the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate, but Arizona's next U.S. Senator."

Immigration reform back to square one

Washington (CNN) – After two years of protests, boycotts and lawsuits over Arizona's immigration law, Monday's Supreme Court decision leaves the state of immigration reform almost unchanged with states frustrated and Congress avoiding the debate.

"I would guess [Congress] won't touch this with a 10-foot pole until after they come back after the election," Charles H. Kuck, managing partner at Kuck Immigration Partners in Atlanta, told CNN.

Brewer: Obama admin launched 'assault' on Arizona

(CNN) – Republican Gov. Jan Brewer of Arizona had some biting words for the Obama administration Monday after it announced it was rescinding agreements that allow some local law enforcement officers to enforce federal immigration laws.

"They arbitrarily singled out Arizona and sent a bomb, if you will, across our bow and made Arizona once again a target," Brewer said on CNN's "John King, USA."

Romney weighs in on Arizona immigration ruling

Scottsdale, Arizona (CNN) – Presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney said he wished the Supreme Court had given Arizona "more latitude" in its ruling on the state's controversial immigration law, saying the high court's decision undermined states' rights on the hotly-debated issue.

However, Romney saved most of his censure for President Barack Obama, accusing the president of creating a "muddle" over the issue and failing to lead on immigration reform.

Politicians respond to Supreme Court rulings

(CNN) – Political figures reacted to the release of Supreme Court rulings Monday on the controversial Arizona immigration law and over campaign finance.

The high court struck down key parts of the Arizona bill, voting 5-3 that the federal government has the power to block the state's measure. However, the court upheld one of the most controversial parts of the bill – a provision that allows police to check a person's immigration status while enforcing other laws if "reasonable suspicion" exists that the person is in the United States illegally.

Giffords' successor, shooting survivor holds symbolic meet-and-greet event

(CNN) - Days after being sworn in to fill Gabrielle Giffords' congressional seat, Rep. Ron Barber hobnobbed with constituents at a "Congress On Your Corner" event - the same type of meet-and-greet at which he, Giffords and 17 others were shot, six fatally.

Then in her third term, Giffords was holding her own "Congress On Your Corner" on January 8, 2011, outside a Safeway supermarket in Tucson when authorities say Jared Lee Loughner began opening fire. Shot in the head, Giffords resigned from Congress just over a year later to focus on her recovery.

High court considering appeal over Arizona voter ID law

Washington (CNN) - Justice Anthony Kennedy has put on hold a lower court's ruling invalidating Arizona's voter identification law.

Kennedy, in a one-page order Thursday, told parties on both sides of the issue to file legal briefs by Wednesday. The high court would then presumably decide whether the requirements would remain in place temporarily.

Analysis: Arizona win 'an oasis in the desert' for Democrats

Washington (CNN) - It's been a tough couple of weeks for the Democratic Party, especially the results in last week's Wisconsin governor recall vote. So Tuesday night's victory in the special election in Arizona's 8th Congressional District couldn't have come at a better time.

For Democrats, "it's an oasis in the desert" says CNN chief political correspondent Candy Crowley.
