Beau Biden: Ryan wants more troops in Afghanistan

(CNN) – Vice President Joe Biden's son argued Friday that his father's opponent on the debate stage, Rep. Paul Ryan, wants to move more U.S. troops to Afghanistan.

Ryan's campaign, however, hit back saying the GOP vice presidential nominee made no such argument during the two running mates' tense exchange Thursday over ending the decade-long war.

Beau Biden: His dad lands punches

Washington (CNN) - The eldest son of Vice President Joe Biden told CNN one reason Republicans are so eager to go after his father is because he is such an effective advocate.

"They reason they would go after him is because he lands punches. He's the single best communicator of the middle class out there. And he is because that's what this campaign is about. How do we, how we do we make sure the middle class continues to have all that it should and move this country forward. The president and my dad want to build this country from the middle class out. Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney want to do it like George W. Bush did. This trickle down, top down mentality," he told CNN Chief Political Analyst Gloria Borger.

Tune to CNN for Thursday's vice presidential debate coverage starting at 7 p.m. ET on CNN TV, CNN.com and via CNN's apps for iPhone, iPad and Android. Web users can become video editors with a new clip-and-share feature that allows them to share favorite debate moments on Facebook and Twitter.

Beau Biden told supporters Saturday he will be back on the job soon.

(CNN) – Four days after apparently suffering a mild stroke, Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden - the son of Vice President Joe Biden - told supporters he is ready to get back to work soon.

The comments came in a surprise phone call to participants of a fundraising event the vice president hosted Saturday morning on his son's behalf.

“I just wanted to call and let each and every one of you know how much I appreciate your support for me and for the family on so many levels,” the younger Biden said. “I’m looking forward to getting back to work and running for re-election as well.”

Biden is seeking reelection to a second term as Delaware’s top attorney. He recently served in Iraq for one year as a captain with the Delaware Army National Guard. He was considered a front-runner to fill his father's former U.S. Senate seat this November, but in January he announced he had decided against a run for higher office.

“I’m eager to continue [what] we started, that many of you helped me start in 2006,” the younger Biden also told supporters. “I can’t wait to see you all. I’ll be home real soon.”
