Analysis: Jindal lays down 2016 marker

Charlotte, North Carolina (CNN) - At one point, the banging of the drums and the screeching of the horns could be heard two hotel ballrooms away. The band warming up down the hall was loud enough Thursday night that it distracted some in the audience, but not Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who, at hyperspeed, laid out his vision for the Republican Party and the nation.

"We have to stop looking backwards," Jindal said in his headlining speech at the Republican National Committee Winter Meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina. "We've got to boldly show what the future can look like with the free market policies we believe in."

Jindal urges GOP to stop being ‘stupid’

(CNN) - “We must stop being the stupid party.” “We must stop looking backward.” “We must stop insulting the intelligence of voters.”

Gov. Bobby Jindal held little back with his sharp words to Republicans Thursday evening, urging his own party to rethink their arguments against Democrats and appeals to voters in his remarks to party members attending the Republican National Committee’s Winter Meeting.

Jindal makes case for over-the-counter birth control

(CNN) – The political battle earlier this year over health insurance coverage for contraception wouldn't be repeated if women could buy birth control without a prescription, Louisiana's Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal wrote in an op-ed Friday.

Jindal was advocating a recommendation from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, who took the stance in November that birth control pills should be sold over-the-counter in drugstores. Currently contraception pills require a prescription from a doctor, many of whom are represented by the ACOG.

Former Romney adviser blasts top surrogates for now 'eviscerating' Romney

(CNN) – A former senior adviser to Mitt Romney's presidential campaign skewered some of the GOP nominee's surrogates Wednesday, saying it was "stunning" how they preened for administration positions when they thought Romney would win but then turned on the candidate as soon as he lost the election.

Dan Senor recalled an anecdote at the large rally held in Ohio the Friday before Election Day earlier this month. He said some of the event's major headliners were praising the candidate backstage and had begun engaging Romney's transition team.

Jindal says Romney 'gift' remark 'completely unhelpful'

(CNN) – Gov. Bobby Jindal – the newly elected chair of the Republican Governors Association and a frequent subject of 2016 presidential speculation – reiterated Thursday his irritation at Mitt Romney's comments explaining his defeat in the presidential election.

Romney was recorded telling donors on a conference call that President Barack Obama won votes by offering "gifts" to African-Americans, Hispanics and young voters.

Jindal stays quiet on 2016 White House bid

(CNN) - Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is keeping mum about his interest in running for president in 2016, but is speaking out about the Republican Party's direction and will soon find himself with an opportunity to prove his chops as a party leader.

"I got the best job in the world and I'm going to be focused on being governor of this great state for the next three years and being chairman of RGA next year and getting a bunch of great Republican governors elected," he said in an interview with Politico published Tuesday morning.

Campaigns spin debate, even before it began

(CNN) - The campaigns of President Barack Obama and GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney were quick to spin their version of Tuesday's debate, with both campaigns arguing their candidate came out on top.

The surrogates, in fact, started circulating the designated "spin room" before the candidates took to the podium, setting expectations.

FIRST ON CNN: Jindal and Christie set to lead Republican Governors Association

Washington (CNN) – Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie are slated to lead the Republican Governors Association through the next two election cycles, a post that would give both of the rising GOP stars a national platform to seek the presidency should Mitt Romney falter in November.

Under an arrangement that appears to have the blessing of RGA member governors as well as both the Jindal and Christie camps, Jindal will serve as RGA Chairman in 2013, when the Virginia and New Jersey governorships are up for grabs.

Jindal focused on health law criticism of Obama

(CNN) - Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal delivered a focused defense of Mitt Romney - and offense against President Barack Obama - on a conference call with reporters on Thursday, even declining to comment on Romney's sense of humor.

"I can't speak to the governor's sense of humor," Jindal said, in response to a question. "I think he's made it very clear, though: in this election, there's a fundamental choice. You've got one candidate, President Obama, who is doubling down on a failed policy... Governor Romney has made it very clear, one of his very first actions will be to repeal and replace this bad law."

Romney tours storm damage in Louisiana

(CNN) - Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney arrived in Louisiana Friday afternoon to tour damage left in the wake of Hurricane Isaac with Gov. Bobby Jindal and Sen. David Vitter.

Romney, who was accompanied by his wife, Ann, said that the trip was to learn and obviously to draw some attention to what's going [on] here... so that people around the country know that people done here need help."
