Brian Schweitzer apologizes for 'gaydar' comments about Eric Cantor

(CNN) –Former Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer apologized for making some controversial comments about outgoing House Majority Leader Eric Cantor and Sen. Dianne Feinstein that sparked outrage.

"I recently made a number of stupid and insensitive remarks to a reporter from the National Journal. I am deeply sorry and sincerely apologize for my carelessness and disregard," the possible 2016 Democratic presidential candidate said Thursday on his Facebook page.

Former Montana governor’s fondness for Iowa

Washington (CNN) - Former Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer was coy when teased about his intentions for 2016 on a Sunday talk show.

ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos asked Schweitzer if his comments in Iowa last month criticizing Democrats who voted to go to war in Iraq was a “not so subtle shot across the bow for Hillary Clinton.”

In Iowa, Schweitzer takes aim at Clinton's Iraq vote

Altoona, Iowa (CNN) – Brian Schweitzer, a former Montana governor and self-styled prairie populist who wants to be part of the Democratic presidential conversation for 2016, drew a bright line between himself and presumed frontrunner Hillary Clinton on Wednesday by raising an topic that has largely faded from the political spotlight amid rising economic anxiety: the Iraq War.
