(CNN) - Members of the bipartisan Gang of Eight senators working out immigration overhaul legislation said Sunday they expect to have a draft bill agreeable to their circle by the end of this week. But Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, a member of the group, issued a statement saying it was too soon to consider the deal struck.
"I'm encouraged by reports of an agreement between business groups and unions on the issue of guest workers. However, reports that the bipartisan group of eight senators have agreed on a legislative proposal are premature," he wrote.

(CNN) - A bipartisan group of U.S. senators at the heart of the debate over immigration reform toured the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona on Wednesday - the latest sign of growing legislative momentum on a polarizing issue that has been stalled on Capitol Hill for years.
Arizona GOP Sens. John McCain and Jeff Flake were joined on the tour by New York's Chuck Schumer and Colorado's Michael Bennet, both Democrats. The four men are part of a group of eight senators expected to unveil comprehensive legislation soon after Congress returns from its spring break in April.

(CNN) – Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer - one of the "Gang of Eight" senators working toward a bipartisan immigration overhaul on Capitol Hill - said Sunday he was not "upset" with a recently leaked draft of the president's own immigration bill.

(CNN) - The conservative group American Future Fund released Friday its first television ad in a multi-platform campaign against former Sen. Chuck Hagel as President Barack Obama's defense secretary nominee.
The spot will air on cable television in New York, the group said, and is critical of the state's senior senator, Chuck Schumer and his support for Hagel's nomination.

Washington (CNN) - Sen. Chuck Schumer, a key Democrat and Jewish lawmaker, said a Monday meeting with Secretary of Defense nominee Chuck Hagel helped him overcome his reservations about some of the nominee's past comments. Hagel has been received skeptically by some on both sides of the aisle because of positions he has taken on Israel, Iran, and his 2007 statement that a "Jewish lobby intimidated lawmakers."
Schumer, the third-ranking Democrat in the Senate, becomes the second prominent Democrat in the last day to back the former two-term Republican senator from Nebraska.

(CNN) – Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer sounded optimistic Sunday about a fiscal cliff deal in the next two days and argued such last-minute efforts are standard in congressional talks.
"Well, there are certainly no breakthroughs yet between (Senate Minority Leader Mitch) McConnell and (Senate Majority Leader Harry) Reid, but there's a real possibility of a deal," the senator from New York said on ABC's "This Week."
