(CNN) - With early voting in Florida already well underway, a sizeable number of votes may have already been cast for Florida Democratic Senate candidate, Rep. Kendrick Meek– but they would not have been certified if he were to drop his bid, according to the Florida Department of State.
As of Thursday, 774, 911 people had voted early in Florida, according to Jennifer Davis, communications director for the Florida Department of State.
Should a political party's nominee drop out before Election Day, the party could elect to provide a replacement candidate, Davis said. Any votes for the vacating candidate would then count toward the new nominee. However, if the party does not name a new candidate, the early votes would not be reported for anyone, and would not be certified by the state.
