Chelsea Clinton's wedding plans have sparked intense speculation.
Chelsea Clinton's wedding plans have sparked intense speculation.

(CNN) – With less than two weeks before 30 year-old Chelsea Clinton's wedding to longtime friend and beau Marc Mezvinsky, 32, on July 31, speculation over the details of the big event has reached a frenzy.

Asked by NBC's Andrea Mitchell on Sunday, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton would not disclose even a hint at the guest list saying, "It is hers, and it's a family wedding. The people coming are her friends and people that have been meaningful in her life, as it should be."

Media reports have Clinton and Mezvinsky tying the knot at the former estate of John Jacob Astor, Astor Courts in Rhinebeck, NY. Local businesses have fueled the speculation, with one local florist, Lynn Lobotsky, telling CNN that "about a month ago, they started working around the clock on the stone wall along River Road," the road that leads to Astor Courts. "They even worked on Sunday," she said.

Clinton proud to be an 'MOTB'

Washington (CNN) – She’s the nation’s top diplomat but one of her more difficult negotiations may be sartorial.

In an interview that airs Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton tells CNN Senior Political Correspondent Candy Crowley that both she and daughter Chelsea are still on the look out for the perfect dresses for Chelsea’s upcoming wedding.

“Well, if you don't tell anybody, Candy, we're - we're still looking,” Clinton told Crowley, who recently had to buy a dress for her eldest son’s wedding. And it's - it's a new status for me being an MOTB [mother of the bride]. But I'm very proud to have that status,” the secretary of state added.

“Good - good luck on the search. That's all I have to say,” Crowley advised Clinton.

“We're working on it,” Clinton assured Crowley.

The secretary of state was also diplomatic about Sunday’s big Super Bowl battle between the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints

Clinton: 'It's daunting' planning a wedding

(CNN) – Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said she is thrilled about her daughter's engagement, but isn't sure how she will find the time to plan the wedding.

"I am officially an MOTB: a mother of the bride," Clinton said Friday in an interview with CNN's John Roberts. "And I am very excited about it"

Clinton's daughter, Chelsea, is engaged to marry Marc Mezvinsky, the son of former congressmen Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky of Pennsylvania and Ed Mezvinsky of Iowa.

"For me, [it's] particularly an extraordinary moment to see how happy my daughter is and to have a wonderful man that will become my son-in-law. But it's daunting to try and plan a wedding."

Clinton, who has been criss-crossing the globe since becoming Secretary of State, said she recently received an encouraging call from former Secretary of State Madeline Albright.

"Madeline Albright called me the other night and said, 'Well, when I was Secretary of State and had not a minute to myself, I had to plan a wedding, so if you need any advice, just call me,'" Clinton told Roberts in an interview in Brussels, where she is trying to rally European support for President Obama's new strategy in Afghanistan. "And I said, "I'll be calling."

Clinton said the size of the wedding has not been determined, but noted it would be private.

The couple sent a message to friends and famiy announcing the decision. "We're sorry for the mass email but we wanted to wish everyone a belated Happy Thanksgiving! We also wanted to share that we are engaged! We didn't get married this past summer despite the stories to the contrary, but we are looking toward next summer and hope you all will be there to celebrate with us. Happy Holidays! Chelsea & Marc"

Marc Mezvinsky is the son of former Rep. Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky, the Pennsylvania congresswoman who lost her re-election bid in 1994 after casting the deciding vote on President Clinton's economic plan.

Bill Clinton says Chelsea may go into politics

Bill Clinton says Chelsea may go into politics someday.
Bill Clinton says Chelsea may go into politics someday.

(CNN) - Is politics in Chelsea Clinton's future?

Bill Clinton says maybe.

In an interview with People Magazine, the former president said he thinks his daughter is a natural campaigner who may one day follow her parents into the family business.

"If you asked me [whether Chelsea would go into politics] before Iowa, I would have said, 'No way. She is too allergic to anything we do.' But she is really good at it," the former president said in the latest edition of the magazine

Clinton also said Chelsea was deeply upset by her mother's disappointing third-place finish in Iowa in January.

"It all changed after Iowa," he said. "She realized her mother lost Iowa 100 percent because of younger voters. She was upset, bawled, went to her employer and said, 'Look, you got to let me go or give me an indefinite leave of absence. I'm not letting my mother go down like this.' "

Navy denies Chelsea Clinton access to former firing range

Chelsea Clinton has been campaigning for her mom in Puerto Rico since Tuesday.
Chelsea Clinton has been campaigning for her mom in Puerto Rico since Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (CNN) - The U.S. Navy denied Chelsea Clinton access to a former firing range in Puerto Rico on Wednesday, Navy officials said.

The Navy rejected the request because U.S. law forbids campaigning on federal property and because the Navy allows only people clearing the Vieques range of ordinance to enter the area, the officials said. They said they did not know what Clinton planned to do there.

The U.S. Navy used the long-controversial Vieques range - the majority of the island of Vieques - for bombing and artillery practice until May of 2003. It was the target of frequent protests by Puerto Ricans who objected to its use. It is now federal property being cleaned of unexploded ordnance.

Clinton - who has been campaigning for her mother, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton - is in the U.S. territory ahead of its June 1 primary. It is the largest prize left for the Democratic candidates.

Barack Obama's wife, Michelle, is also due to campaign there.

Chelsea Clinton to campaign in Puerto Rico

(CNN) – CNN has learned that former first daughter Chelsea Clinton will be campaigning for her mother in Puerto Rico Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week.

The announcement comes on the heels of the Clinton campaign's admission that it is currently $20 million in debt and among increased talk by political pundits about when and how Sen. Hillary Clinton will exit the race and concede the Democratic presidential nomination to Sen. Barack Obama.

Puerto Rico holds its presidential primaries on June 1 so the decision to send Chelsea Clinton to the island appears to signal her mother's intention to remain in the race at least until early next month.

In her efforts to help her mother, Chelsea Clinton has lucked out by getting assigned to campaign in not one, but two tropical locales. The younger Clinton previously campaigned in Hawaii prior to that state's Democratic caucuses in February and this week's trip will be her second to Puerto Rico on her mother's behalf.
