On southern road trip, Christie preaches compromise

Nashville, Tennessee (CNN) — Chris Christie swept into Tennessee on Friday and did all the things that Chris Christie does best.

He raised a barrel full of money, for the Republican Governors Association and the Tennessee GOP. A consummate political performer, he backslapped his way through two fawning campaign crowds, one in Memphis and one in Nashville, posing for pictures and obliging starstruck Republicans who complimented him on his weight loss.

Christie chides Obama over VA 'disgrace'

Nashville, Tennessee (CNN) - Chris Christie sharply criticized President Barack Obama’s management of the Veterans Affairs scandal on Friday, calling the resignation of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki “long overdue.”

“I wish that the President had been more aggressive since minute one to go in and fix it himself, because what’s happened there is a disgrace,” Christie said in a brief interview on Friday, hours after Shinseki met with the President and stepped down from his post.

Christie, Martinez hit the trail in New Mexico

(CNN) - Govs. Chris Christie and Susana Martinez certainly weren't trying to tamp down their mutual admiration Thursday, making a joint appearance that could further fuel speculation of a potential presidential ticket.

Talking to reporters after a meet-and-greet in Roswell, New Mexico, Christie labeled Martinez "one of my best friends in the entire Republican Governors Association."

(CNN) – Gov. Chris Christie is getting some compliments about his shrinking waist line.

After filing a complaint with Christie at a town hall Wednesday in Ocean County, New Jersey, one woman told the Republican governor he looks a lot "smaller."

(CNN) – Chris Christie, a diehard New York Mets fan, reiterated on Friday that he would happily run the National League baseball team, if given the chance.

"I would love to be general manager of the Mets," the New Jersey governor said on WFAN's "Boomer and Carton" sports radio show.

Christie defends RGA chairmanship amid fiscal mess in N.J.

(CNN) - Gov. Chris Christie, who chairs the Republican Governors Association, argued Wednesday that fiscal problems back at home in New Jersey aren't clouding his leadership abilities at the RGA.

The group has been aggressively pushing a message that states are better off economically under Republican governors. Christie was asked at a press conference in New York whether that same argument can be made in the Garden State.

Under pressure to fix budget gap, Christie will slash pension payments

(CNN) – Gov. Chris Christie will cut planned pension payments for state employees by almost $2.5 billion over the next two fiscal years, the New Jersey Republican announced Tuesday.

The move is part of the governor's plan to close an unexpected $807 million budget shortfall that his administration was made aware of last month.

Trenton, New Jersey (CNN) – A former campaign staffer for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie testified on Tuesday before a special legislative committee investigating the George Washington Bridge scandal.

Matt Mowers, who now runs the Republican Party in New Hampshire, is the third witness to testify before panel members at the Statehouse Annex in Trenton.

N.J. bridge panel to hear more testimony, Republicans ponder alternative theory

(CNN) – A New Jersey legislative committee investigating the orchestrated lane closures at the George Washington Bridge will hear more testimony on Tuesday.

Matt Mowers, a former campaign staffer for Gov. Chris Christie who now runs the New Hampshire GOP, will be the third person to testify under oath in Trenton as lawmakers look into allegations of abuse of authority.

Christie calls for more forceful foreign policy

(CNN) - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie painted a bleak picture of America's standing in the world on Sunday, blaming the Obama administration for making the country appear weak by not defending the nation's values in other parts of the globe.

"No one understands any longer who America stands with or against," he argued. "No one really understands exactly what we'll stand for - and what we are willing to sacrifice to stand up for it."
