The nuts and bolts for Tuesday's primaries

(CNN) - Voters in five states will head to the polls on Tuesday after a three-week lull in the Republican presidential primary season, a time in which Mitt Romney essentially secured his party's nomination.

Connecticut, Delaware, New York, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island will hold primaries, with a total of 204 delegates at stake.

Here's a glimpse of the nuts and bolts for Tuesday's contests.

Poll: Good news for Obama in Connecticut

(CNN) – It's advantage President Barack Obama in Connecticut ahead of the 2012 presidential election, according to a new poll.

The Quinnipiac University survey released Thursday showed Obama trumping his potential Republican opponents in the general election. He beat Mitt Romney 53% to 37% and Rick Santorum 55% to 35% among registered voters in hypothetical matchups.

Shays enters GOP race for Connecticut senate

(CNN) – Chris Shays, a former Republican congressman who lost his Connecticut seat to a Democrat in 2008, announced Wednesday he was challenging wrestling executive Linda McMahon in a GOP primary for the Senate seat opening up in the state.

Speaking in Hartford, Shays said the 2012 election was too important to send a political novice to Washington.

McMahon tries again for Conn. Senate seat

Washington (CNN) - Former professional wrestling executive Linda McMahon announced Tuesday she was making another bid for Senate in Connecticut, almost one year after spending tens of millions of dollars on an unsuccessful run against Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal.

"I am a proven job creator," McMahon said in her announcement event at a Southington, Conn. machinery factory.

Bysiewicz to vie for Lieberman's Senate seat

(CNN) - A prominent Connecticut Democratic politician announced Tuesday her intention to launch a bid for the state's Senate seat currently held by independent Sen. Joseph Lieberman.

Former Connecticut Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz's announcement may encourage others eyeing the Democratic nomination to announce their intentions sooner rather than later. Reps. Joe Courtney and Chris Murphy are said to be considering a bid; Lieberman's Democratic colleagues are rumored to be encouraging him to run for re-election as a Democrat.

Democrat declared winner of Connecticut gov. race

(CNN) - Democrat Dan Malloy has won the tight Connecticut governor's race over Republican Tom Foley, secretary of state Susan Bysiewicz announced by statement Friday.

The victory for Malloy, the former mayor of Stamford, is the first for a Democrat in the state since 1986. He will replace M. Jodi Rell, who retired from office.

Connecticut's 4th staying open late

(CNN) - Polling places in Connecticut's 4th congressional district will remain open until 10 p.m. to accommodate citizens unable to vote after the city of Bridgeport ran out of ballots.

Connecticut's legislation and elections administration division confirmed the details to CNN.

Exit Polls: behind the numbers in Connecticut

(CNN) - The gender gap hit Linda McMahon hard in Connecticut: according to early exit polls, the Senate contender trails 60 to 39 percent....among women.

Side note: the controversy over Dick Blumenthal's misstatements about his Vietnam-era service don't seem to have made a big impression on the state's voters: by 62 to 36 percent, they say he's honest and trustworthy.
