Video: John King explains the forced budget cuts

(CNN) - Webster defines "sequester" as to set apart, or segregate. In Washington, it's a fancy word for forced spending cuts – and an example of how political leaders in both parties are failing to do their most basic job, CNN Chief National Correspondent John King reports.

Gingrich on ‘self-deportation’: It’s ‘the most anti-human phrase’

(CNN) - Just over a year after Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney battled in the first primaries for the GOP presidential nomination, the former House speaker on Wednesday blasted his ex-political foe for advocating an immigration policy of “self-deportation” during the campaign.

“I said we're not going to deport grandmothers who've been here for 25 years. Romney came and said, ‘Well they'll self-deport,’” Gingrich said on CNN’s “The Situation Room.”

“That is the most anti-human phrase you can imagine,” said the Georgian.

McCain criticizes Hagel's 'worldview,' but hopes friendship still there

Washington (CNN) – In 2000, Chuck Hagel and John McCain were both serving as Republican senators, each with a reputation as a Vietnam War hero unafraid of bucking his own party.

That year, Hagel broke with most of his fellow GOP senators to back McCain's bid for the GOP presidential nomination, which he ultimately lost to George W. Bush. While introducing McCain's speech at the 2000 GOP convention in Philadelphia, Hagel lauded the Arizona lawmaker as "a great Republican (and) a great American leader."

Priebus predicts 'granular' approach for party

(CNN) -- Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus said while the party's committee is not an organization to recommend policy changes to Congress, he believes messaging plays an important role and anticipates a more 'granular' approach to presenting GOP policies.

Priebus, who told RNC members in a letter last week he would seek re-election as the committee's leader, has said his party is planning an "autopsy" to locate areas where the GOP struggled to gain support in last month's elections.
