Democrats struggle to explain Jerusalem, God omissions

(CNN) – A co-chairman of the committee charged with drafting the Democrats' official party platform said Thursday it was "unfortunate" that references to Jerusalem and God were initially omitted from this year's document, but could not explain events that led to that exclusion.

"It was an unfortunate omission," Newark, New Jersey, Mayor Cory Booker said on CNN's "Starting Point," stressing that the discrepancies between this year's platform and 2008's – which did include language referring to God and Jerusalem – did not detract from President Barack Obama's core beliefs.

Additional speakers for Democratic Convention revealed

(CNN) – Newark Mayor Cory Booker will help reveal his party's platform at the upcoming Democratic National Convention, the event's organizers announced Friday.

Booker will join retired Lt. Gen. Claudia Kennedy, who opposed Don't Ask Don't Tell, the military policy banning gays and lesbians that was ended by President Barack Obama. The platform will be unveiled on Tuesday, September 4, the first day of the Democratic Convention.

Obama, Booker defend Biden 'chains' remarks

(CNN) – President Obama and Newark Mayor Cory Booker defended a controversial remark made by Joe Biden on Tuesday, affirming their support of the vice president in interviews Wednesday and urging the remarks to be taken in context.

Obama told People Magazine that Biden's remarks meant "you, consumers, the American people, will be a lot worse off if we repeal these (Wall Street reform) laws, as the other side is suggesting."

Newark mayor says he helped injured pedestrian

(CNN) - Cory Booker, the Newark, New Jersey, mayor who in April carried a woman out of a burning building, may have been involved in another incident, this time involving a pedestrian who was apparently struck by a vehicle.

"God bless my residents," Booker posted on Twitter on Friday. "Pulled up on pedestrian/vehicle accident. We got man stabilized & into ambulance. He'll b OK. Thanx 2 all who helped."

Obama campaign: Booker spoke with DNC

Washington (CNN) – As it turns out, Newark, New Jersey Mayor Cory Booker did talk with an official at the Democratic National Committee following his off-message appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press," an Obama campaign spokesman confirmed Tuesday.

Ben LaBolt, a spokesman for the president's re-election team, told CNN in an interview on Monday that Booker was never pressured by the Obama campaign to record a YouTube video clarifying his remarks on the Sunday talk show.

Obama campaign: We didn't ask for Booker video

(CNN) – President Barack Obama's campaign spokesman said Monday that neither the president's campaign nor the White House asked Newark, New Jersey Mayor Cory Booker to produce a web video clarifying his take on a spate of recent campaign attack ads.

Ben LaBolt was asked by CNN's Brooke Baldwin if the campaign requested the Booker backtrack.

Axelrod chides Booker for defending Romney

(CNN) – David Axelrod, the president's senior campaign strategist, scorned fellow Democrat and Obama supporter Cory Booker after the Newark mayor defended Mitt Romney this weekend.

"In this particular instance, he was just wrong" Axelrod said Monday in an interview with MSNBC.

Political jabs are 'nauseating,' mayor says

(CNN) – Mayor Cory Booker of Newark, New Jersey, a Democrat, said Sunday that some of the current politicking makes him sick - including criticism of Mitt Romney from his own party.

Booker, whose national standing is on the rise, distanced himself from attacks on Romney's record at the private equity firm Bain Capital, which he said make him "uncomfortable."

Newark mayor rushes into burning home to save neighbor

(CNN) – Newark, New Jersey, Mayor Cory Booker ran into a burning building Thursday night to help rescue a trapped woman, an act of heroism that sent him to the hospital.

Booker talked about the incident on Twitter.

Washington (CNN) - Snowpacalypse, beware: Chicago mayoral candidate Rahm Emanuel is ready-and waiting-for you. In fact, snow-readiness could almost be a competition, if you ask him.

On Tuesday the former White House Chief of Staff tweeted a challenge rebuttal to Newark city mayor Cory Booker about his recent snow prowess: "@CoryBooker I'll show you who's 'shovel-ready.'"
