(CNN) - Red-state/blue-state rancor flared on Monday outside the White House between two governors – one with potential presidential aspirations.
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, a Republican, and his Connecticut Democratic counterpart, Dannel Malloy, squared off over the minimum wage after they and other governors met with President Barack Obama.
(CNN) – On CNN’s “State of the Union,” four governors were asked Sunday whether they want to rule out a presidential bid.
Republican Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana, considered a dark horse for the 2016 presidential race, didn’t directly answer the question.
(CNN) – Four governors - two Republicans and two Democrats - indicated Sunday that their states would not be headed down the same road as Colorado and Washington in terms of legalizing recreational marijuana.
Asked on CNN’s “State of the Union” whether they would consider making pot legal, Texas Gov. Rick Perry was the first to jump in with a flat “no.”
(CNN) - Responding to criticism from the National Rifle Association over Connecticut's new gun laws, Gov. Dan Malloy argued the pro-gun group's executive vice president, Wayne LaPierre, is simply blowing smoke.
"Wayne reminds me of the clowns at the circus - they get the most attention. That's what he's paid to do," Malloy said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union."
(CNN) - Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy choked up Wednesday when addressing the Newtown elementary school shooting that left 20 students dead, and bluntly rejected the notion of putting more guns in classrooms as protection.
"When it comes to preventing future acts of violence in our schools, let me say this: more guns are not the answer," he said in his state of the state address. "Freedom is not a handgun on the hip of every teacher and security should not mean a guard posted outside every classroom."
(CNN) - Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy called for federal legislators to act on gun control legislation in the wake of shootings at the Sandy Hook Elementary School and said laws could have been in place which may have prevented this shooting.
"Do I think Washington, D.C., needs to get its act together and enact stricter gun control laws at the federal level?" he asked. "You bet I do."
(CNN) - Lawmakers tend to stay quiet in the immediate aftermath of mass shootings, hoping to avoid attempts to politicize such tragedy.
But two days after the attack that took the lives of 20 children and six adults at a Connecticut elementary school, lawmakers were eager to take on the gun debate Sunday - with many saying a tipping point had finally been reached to pass stricter laws.
(CNN) - Two days after telling more than 20 families they had lost loved ones in one of the nation's deadliest school shootings, Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy on Sunday urged stricter gun control legislation at the federal level.
"These are assault weapons. You don't hunt deer with these things," Malloy said on CNN's "State of the Union." "I think that's the question that a lot of people are going to have to resolve in their own minds: Where should this line get drawn?"
(CNN) – In the wake of one of the country’s deadliest mass shootings in Connecticut and the ensuing national conversation over U.S. gun laws, political figures are putting pressure on Washington to take serious action to prevent such tragedies.
A gunman entered Sandy Hook Elementary School Friday morning and opened fire on teachers and students killing 20 children and six adults. Hours after the shooting, President Barack Obama wiped tears from his eye and said "our hearts are broken today,” calling for “meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this regardless of politics.”
Williamsburg, Virginia (CNN) - Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy, a Democrat, questioned the patriotism of Republicans on Friday, saying their sole mission is to defeat President Barack Obama instead of passing meaningful legislation.
"To be a Republican today, you have to deny reality and embrace a message that has no other purpose than to elect their candidate as President of the United States," Malloy said at a press conference with other Democratic governors in Williamsburg, the site of the National Governors Association annual meeting.
