Congressional candidate to carry Olympic torch

(CNN) - Jose Hernandez has been around the world more than 200 times. Next week, he'll make a much shorter - but significant - trip.

Hernandez, an astronaut and a Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives, will carry the Olympic torch in England on Monday.

DCCC pulls in $2.3 million after health care ruling

(CNN) – The group tasked with electing Democrats to the House of Representatives said Tuesday they pulled in $2.3 million following last week's Supreme Court ruling that upheld President Barack Obama's health care law.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said in a release they brought in the money from nearly 65,000 donations, and that the average contribution totaled $35. The DCCC said Saturday was the largest small donor fund-raising day in the group's history.

Dem group uses health care ruling in House races

(CNN) – The group charged with electing Democrats to the House of Representatives said Monday they were launching an effort to discredit Republicans who oppose President Barack Obama's health care law.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee will use live phone calls, along with automated calls, in 10 districts they regard as up for grabs in November's election.

Top Democrat advises candidates to skip convention

(CNN) – Rep. Steve Israel, chairman of the committee charged with getting Democrats elected to the House, is discouraging candidates up for re-election from attending the Democratic National Committee in September.

"If they want to win an election, they need to be in their districts," Israel, who heads the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said at a Reuters event in Washington on Tuesday, according to the news outlet.

DCCC out-raises NRCC by small margin in May

(CNN) - The official committees tasked with electing Democrats to the U.S. House narrowly outraised the Republican effort, $6.68 million to $6 million, in May, numbers disclosed by the committees on Tuesday showed.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said their May haul means they have $27.5 million in the bank for the fall election, and said their total fund-raising this cycle is $96.75 million.

(CNN) - Current House Speaker John Boehner and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi engaged in an elections expectations debate Sunday, with both forecasting a party victory in November.

Boehner, R-Ohio, acknowledged there will be some tough battles for Republicans, but said most GOP members are doing “very well.”

NRCC narrowly edges Dem rivals in April fundraising

(CNN) – The National Republican Campaign Committee, which is tasked with electing party members to the House of Representatives, outraised their Democratic competitors in April by a small margin, according to figures released Friday.

The NRCC raised $6.9 million in April, and increased their war chest by more than $4 million. The group ended the month with $31.3 million in the bank.

House election committees add millions to coffers

Washington (CNN) - The Republican and Democratic fundraising organizations in charge of electing party members to the House of Representatives each raised over $9 million in March, the two groups announced on Tuesday.

The National Republican Congressional Committee brought in $9.3 million last month, ending the period with $27.1 million in the bank.

(CNN) – The latest assault on the Republican budget came courtesy of Martin Sheen in a new video from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee asking Americans to stand against plans to "end Medicare."

Sheen, perhaps best known for his role as President Josiah Bartlet on "The West Wing," talked of his American ideals in the nearly 2-minute long video, armed with the consistent charges made by Democrats throughout the Medicare debate.

House Democrats call on Boehner to repudiate Limbaugh's 'slut' comment

Washington (CNN) - House Democrats sent a letter to House Speaker John Boehner on Thursday urging him to "repudiate" conservative radio personality Rush Limbaugh for calling a young woman who appeared before a congressional panel a "slut" and a "prostitute."

On his show Wednesday, Limbaugh disparaged Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown Law student who appeared before House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi's policy committee last week to advocate that women have access to contraceptives.
