Obama on the links: Did the lessons pay off?

Palm City, Florida (CNN) - President Obama, fresh off lessons from a top golf coach and a round with Tiger Woods, took to the course for a final time on his Florida private trip Monday.

There were no celebrities or golf experts in today's foursome. The president played for a third day in a row with Trade Representative Ron Kirk, as well as longtime Chicago friend Eric Whitaker, and White House travel director Marvin Nicholson.

High profile but out of sight: Obama's golf outing with Tiger Woods

Palm City, Florida (CNN) – President Barack Obama's round of golf with Tiger Woods was one of the most talked about moments of the weekend, but not one of the most seen. Despite its high interest and high profile, the game was off-limits to White House reporters and photographers.

And that drew a complaint from the White House Correspondents’ Association, expressing news organizations' "extreme frustration" with the lack of access, and promising a continuing fight for more transparency.

Fighter jets chase down small planes near Obama’s Florida resort

(CNN) - Fighter jets intercepted three small planes that violated flight restrictions set up in Florida for President Barack Obama’s visit.

The first, a Cessna 152, entered the restricted airspace just before noon Saturday near the Palm City resort where the president is staying, according to Army Lt. Col. Mike Humphreys.

Obama trades White House for clubhouse this weekend

Palm City, Florida (CNN) - President Barack Obama won't be hanging by the beach during his Florida vacation this weekend – unless he ends up stuck in a sand trap.

While his wife and daughters are in Colorado skiing, the president will hit the course at the Floridian golf club, an expansive resort in Palm City, Florida.

Former Florida GOP chairman pleads guilty in fraud case

(CNN) - A trial expected to last two weeks was suddenly shortened to 10 minutes Monday when former Florida GOP Chairman Jim Greer made a surprise guilty plea to five criminal charges.

Greer was facing a possible 75 years in prison for fraud, money laundering and theft, but now has a possible maximum sentence of 35 years.

Long voting lines spark top election official's recommendations

(CNN) – The long lines at Florida polling stations on November 6 have led the state's top election official to recommend expanded early voting and shorter ballots.

The suggestions, issued Monday by Secretary of State Ken Detzner, come after harsh criticism of Florida's voting system, which was the subject of national attention even before long lines and reporting delays came to light after Election Day.

(CNN) - Republicans in New Hampshire and Democrats in Iowa and Florida elected new party leaders Saturday.

In New Hampshire, Jennifer Horn, a party activist who unsuccessfully ran for the U.S. House in 2008 and 2010, was chosen to lead the NH GOP.

Poll: Florida voters give Gov. Scott low marks

(CNN) – Following an election marked by long lines, voter registration problems and delayed results in Florida, the state's governor continues to struggle with low approval numbers, according to a new poll.

Defending questions about the state's handling of Election Day, Republican Gov. Rick Scott said Wednesday on CNN he was simply complying with the law.

Crist on party-switch: GOP has become 'strident and more difficult'

(CNN) – Former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist explained Monday his recent switch to the Democratic Party, saying the GOP has become "less tolerant (and) less welcoming."

"I didn't leave the Republican Party, the Republican Party left me," Crist said on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight," repeating a line he used at the Democratic National Convention. "Issue after issue they seem to get more strident and more difficult."

Crist's political hat trick: Former GOP governor, independent candidate announces switch to Dem

(CNN) – Former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, who served his state as a Republican then sought office as an independent, tweeted Friday night that he switched his party affiliation to Democrat.

Crist posted to Twitter a photo of himself holding voter registration paperwork and the message, "Proud and honored to join the Democratic Party in the home of President @BarackObama!"
