(CNN) – Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly have launched what they hope will mark a new era in the battle over gun rights in America.
On the second anniversary of a mass shooting in Arizona that wounded Giffords and killed six others, the couple launched a political action committee, Americans for Responsible Solutions, along with a website calling for contributions to help "encourage elected officials to stand up for solutions to prevent gun violence and protect responsible gun ownership."FULL STORY
(CNN) – This mother’s passionate plea for gun control will air in living rooms around the country on the second anniversary of her daughter’s death.
“My nine-year old daughter was murdered in the Tuscon shooting,” says Roxanna Green. “I have one question for our political leaders: when will you find the courage to stand up to the gun lobby?”
“Whose child has to die next?”
Her daughter Christina was among the six killed and 13 wounded in the shooting at neighborhood event with then-Rep. Gabrielle Giffords on January 8, 2011. Giffords was among those wounded and who eventually resigned from Congress to focus on her recovery. Jared Lee Loughner pleaded guilty in August to 19 counts related to the shooting.
(CNN) - The former Arizona congresswoman who survived a mass shooting in her district roughly two years ago paid a visit Friday to Newtown, Connecticut, where last month a gunman killed 27 people and himself in one of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history.
Gabrielle Giffords made the trip with her husband, Mark Kelly. The couple met with local and state leaders to discuss gun control legislation, mental health identification and treatment, and "concerns for the erosion of our societal values such that we are increasingly desensitized to violence," according to Newtown First Selectman Pat Llodra.FULL STORY
(CNN) – Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has a "planned but not confirmed visit" to Newtown, Connecticut scheduled for Friday, Steve Jensen with Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman's office told CNN.
Her visit comes after a gunman killed his own mother and 26 people–20 of them children–at a Newtown elementary school before turning the gun on himself last month.

(CNN) - Democratic Rep. Ron Barber of Arizona was released from a hospital Tuesday after undergoing "minor surgery" to remove a cancerous tumor from his tongue, his office announced.
"He is expected to make a full recovery," Barber's doctor, Audrey Erman, said in a statement. The surgery successfully removed the tumor, which his office said Barber learned about on November 13.
(CNN) – Jared Loughner is sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the January 2011 attempted assassination of then-U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, the killings of six people and attempted murder of 13 others.
"The evidence clearly shows that he knew what he was doing, despite his mental illness," U.S. District Judge Larry Burns said.

Giffords, who stepped down from Congress in January to focus on her recovery from a shooting that left her grievously wounded, walked out with good friend Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz by her side.
