Pelosi says Ryan pick makes it easier for Dems to take House

(CNN) – Mitt Romney's pick of Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate will give Democrats a better shot at retaking control of the House of Representatives, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the House minority leader, said in an interview airing Sunday.

Pelosi, a Democrat, said Ryan's plan to overhaul Medicare was a nonstarter among senior citizens, meaning Democrats are better poised to assume the majority in the lower chamber.

GOP lawmakers reprimanded after swim in Sea of Galilee

(CNN) – It was the end of a long, hot day in Israel when it happened: Republican lawmakers, along with a smattering of aides and family members, dived into the Sea of Galilee, a holy site for Christians where the Bible says Jesus walked on water.

Several GOP sources familiar with the events on August 4, 2011 said one of those Republicans, Rep. Kevin Yoder of Kansas, wasn't wearing any clothes. Others say they dived in for religious reasons.

Report: GOP lawmakers scolded for Israel antics

(CNN) – A group of House Republicans were scolded last year for their behavior during a fact-finding trip to Israel, including skinny dipping in the Sea of Galilee, a spokesman for GOP Majority Leader Eric Cantor said late Sunday after reports of the incidents were published online.

"Twelve months ago, [Cantor] dealt with this immediately and effectively to ensure such activities would not take place in the future," Cantor spokesman Doug Heye wrote in a statement.

House ethics committee clears powerful GOP congressman

Washington (CNN) - The House Ethics Committee announced Tuesday that it has cleared Florida Republican Vern Buchanan in an investigation, finding no evidence that he purposely omitted information from the annual financial disclosure forms he is required to file.

But while the committee closed the case on this matter, it did not comment on other allegations involving Buchanan's business practices, his campaign finances, and accusations that he tried to try to stop a witness from talking. Buchanan remains the target of at least four congressional and federal investigations into those allegations.

House GOP leaders prepare for high court health care decision

Washington (CNN) - House Republican leaders know that immediately after the Supreme Court rules on the health care law Thursday, they'll need to answer questions about what happens next on Capitol Hill - and they're ready.

House GOP to ask justices by month's end to take on same-sex marriage issue

Washington (CNN) - House Republicans have signaled they plan to ask the Supreme Court by month's end to get involved in a constitutional fight over same-sex marriage.

In a federal court filing Wednesday in Connecticut, the House of Representatives' Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group asked a judge to put on hold consideration of a pending lawsuit in that state over the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

Democrats pounce on Norquist visit to Capitol Hill

Washington (CNN) - The person who Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid calls "the most powerful man in Washington" - and who "has the entire Republican Party in the palm of his hand" - visited Capitol Hill Thursday for a briefing with House GOP members and their aides.

But even before anti-tax crusader Grover Norquist entered the ornate Ways and Means Committee hearing room to talk about tax reform on Thursday, Democrats pounced, saying his appearance proves the GOP is beholden to one man's uncompromising position against any tax increases. They also sought to highlight recent reports that Norquist may be losing some support among Republicans.
