Congressman hosts gun safety event for kids on Newtown anniversary

(CNN) - Rep. Ted Yoho said the date for his upcoming gun safety event for kids was not purposely chosen to coincide with the first anniversary of the Newtown, Connecticut elementary school shooting, which left 20 young children and six adults dead.

"My thoughts and prayers go to the victims and families," the Florida Republican Congressman added, in a statement posted Monday to his Facebook page.

Boehner rejects 'do nothing' label for this Congress

Washington (CNN) - House Speaker John Boehner rejected the label that this is a "do nothing" session of Congress, telling reporters Tuesday on Capitol Hill, "we've done our work."

Boehner pointed the finger at the Democratic-led Senate for holding up legislation. "When you look at the number of bills passed by the House and the paltry number of bills passed by the Senate, you can see where the problem is."

Boehner insists immigration reform 'absolutely not' dead

Washington (CNN) – House Speaker John Boehner insisted Thursday that immigration reform was "absolutely not" dead – just a little over a week after declaring he had "no intention" of negotiating with the Democratic led Senate over its comprehensive immigration proposal.

Boehner told reporters at his weekly press conference he was "encouraged" by President Barack Obama's comments earlier this week saying he was open to the House GOP's plans to address immigration reforms in a series of smaller bills.

Updated 4 p.m. ET, 11/15/2013

(CNN) - The House approved Republican legislation on Friday giving health insurers the option of extending plans through 2014 that would otherwise be canceled for not complying with Affordable Care Act standards.

The bill, approved 261-157, would also allow new customers to enroll in those plans. Thirty-nine Democrats crossed party lines and joined a nearly unanimous GOP caucus in voting for the measure proposed by Rep. Fred Upton, R-Michigan.

Dem: 'Heads should have rolled' over botched Obamacare rollout

(CNN) – Heads "should have rolled" at the White House over the botched kickoff of the HealthCare.gov website, said Rep. Nick Rahall, who also is skeptical of President Barack Obama's proposal to fix another problem resulting from the rollout of Obamacare.
