On primary day, Lugar defends his value in Senate

(CNN) – At the close of one of the toughest primary challenges dealt an incumbent this year, Sen. Dick Lugar of Indiana argued in an interview Tuesday that he is one of the bright spots in a body many see dimly.

"The public as a whole may be unhappy with one party or the other, but they're very unhappy with the Congress as a whole for their inability to make decisions," Lugar told CNN Senior Congressional Correspondent Dana Bash. U.S. Chamber floods Indiana mailboxes in support of Lugar

(CNN) – The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a major conservative, pro-business group, is showing its support for Sen. Dick Lugar with hundreds of thousands of direct mail pieces, just days before the longtime senator faces his biggest primary challenge in 35 years.

In the flier, the group praises Lugar for supporting the Keystone pipeline, a proposal that Republicans argue would create thousands of private sector jobs but has faced heavy pushback from Democrats and the president over environmental concerns.

(CNN) – The race for Indiana's Republican U.S. Senate nomination – already a scathing campaign – got a little uglier Tuesday, as incumbent GOP Sen. Dick Lugar hit rival Richard Mourdock on his record as the state's treasurer.
