With clock ticking, Indiana GOP Senate race heats up

(CNN) – Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock's campaign released a new radio ad Monday, hammering six-term incumbent Sen. Dick Lugar of Indiana and adding to the thickening tension between the two candidates in the final two weeks of the primary race.

The 60-second spot directly takes on recent Lugar attacks ads that target Mourdock as a tax fraud, highlighting the ads as "misleading," "an exaggeration" and " straining the facts."

Indiana governor stands by Sen. Lugar in new ad

(CNN) – Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels stars in a new television ad released Sunday by Sen. Dick Lugar’s re-election campaign, defending the longtime Republican senator against intra-party opposition.

“The truth can take a beating in campaign time, and this year it’s Dick Lugar on the receiving end,” Daniels says in the ad. “It’s funny in a way, these folks from elsewhere, here telling us who’s a real Hoosier.”

Daniels offers tough love for Romney

(CNN) – Republican Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels had some advice for Mitt Romney this week, describing the likely Republican nominee's campaign for the White House as too negative.

"You have to campaign to govern, not just to win," Daniels said an in interview published Thursday with the Indianapolis Star.

Lugar's tax day attack

(CNN) – Indiana Sen. Dick Lugar's campaign used Tax Day to release a negative ad reminding voters of a big tax error made by his GOP rival and state treasurer Richard Mourdock.

The 30-second TV spot, titled "Trust," questioned Mourdock's integrity by claiming the candidate received "$45,000 in illegal second homestead tax deductions" from 2008-2010.

(CNN) – It's been 12 years since Indiana Sen. Dick Lugar faced off in a campaign debate.

That streak ends Wednesday night when the most senior Republican member of the Senate shares the stage with his conservative GOP challenger, Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock, at a debate in Indianapolis that will be televised statewide in Indiana.

Lugar beats back residency challenge

(CNN) - Sen. Dick Lugar, the third most senior member of the Senate, triumphed Friday over challenges to his eligibility to pursue re-election as a candidate from Indiana because he no longer has a home there.

Lugar, who has lived in McLean, Virginia, since the sale of his Indianapolis home in 1977, had insisted that residency was not an issue for him since the Indiana state constitution stipulates he only had to be a resident to run for Senate during his first campaign.

Santorum will appear on Indiana primary ballot

(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum will now appear on the Indiana primary ballot.

The state's election commission voted Friday to put the former Pennsylvania senator on the ballot after the Republican Party in the state ruled in early February that he failed to file enough signatures to qualify for the state's May 8 contest.

Indiana lawmaker: Girl Scouts in league with Planned Parenthood

(CNN) – An Indiana lawmaker who opposes celebrating the centennial anniversary of the Girl Scouts of America says the group "sexualizes" young girls, promotes homosexuality and is a tactical arm of Planned Parenthood.

In a letter sent to members of the Republican Caucus, Indiana State Rep. Bob Morris said many parents were "abandoning the Girl Scouts because they promote homosexual lifestyles."

Lugar challenger gets help from conservative group

Washington (CNN) – Prominent conservative group Club for Growth threw its support Tuesday behind Richard Mourdock in his quest to unseat incumbent Republican Sen. Dick Lugar.

The group's president, Chris Chocola, wrote an opinion piece in National Review Online calling for a "fiscal conservative" to represent Indiana, a mantle he said Lugar cannot claim.
