Possible new candidate in key 2014 Senate battle

(CNN) – Add a new name to what's shaping up to be one of the most crucial U.S. Senate showdowns next year.

Iowa Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds said Thursday that she's considering a bid for the seat of longtime Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin, who late last month announced that he wouldn't run in 2014 for a sixth term in office.

A top GOP prospect in key Senate showdown says no to running

(CNN) - One of the two Republican congressmen considering a 2014 bid for an open U.S. Senate seat in Iowa says he is staying put in the House.

Rep. Tom Latham announced Wednesday that he will not campaign for the seat of longtime Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin, who late last month announced that he wouldn't run in 2014 for a sixth term in office.

(CNN) - Rick Santorum's headed to Iowa, some two years and nine months before the next Iowa caucuses.

The Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition announced Tuesday that the former senator from Pennsylvania and 2012 GOP presidential candidate will keynote its annual Spring Kickoff, which will be held April 15.

Vilsack not running for Senate in Iowa

(CNN) – U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, a former two-term Iowa governor, will not seek retiring Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin's seat in 2014, according to Democratic officials.

Soon after Harkin announced his decision to retire at the end of his term, Vilsack's name was floated among others as a potential Democratic candidate for the seat.

Steve King: Karl Rove 'launched a crusade against me'

(CNN) - Rep. Steve King hasn't even declared whether or not he will run for the U.S. Senate.

But on Thursday the Iowa Republican sent a plea to supporters charging veteran GOP strategist Karl Rove was marshalling forces against him in a preemptive effort to push him out of the race.

(CNN) – With just two words, Democratic Rep. Bruce Braley publicly announced Thursday he's running for the Senate seat currently held by retiring Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin.

"I'm in," the congressman posted on Twitter, linking to a Facebook page with the sprawling slogan: "Bruce for Iowa."

Rep. Latham considering a run for Senate in Iowa

(CNN) - Republican Rep. Tom Latham is mulling a run for Senate in Iowa to replace retiring Democrat Tom Harkin, but cautioned that "it's way early" to announce any decision.

Latham told reporters that fellow Iowa GOP Rep. Steve King's decision on whether he'll run for the seat will have no impact on his own deliberations.

In New Hampshire, Jennifer Horn, a party activist who unsuccessfully ran for the U.S. House in 2008 and 2010, was chosen to lead the NH GOP.

Sen. Harkin, Iowa Democrat, won't seek 6th term

(CNN) - Sen. Tom Harkin, a Democrat who has represented Iowa in the U.S. Senate since 1984, will not seek re-election in 2014.

"I have the privilege to be able to make this decision on my own terms, which not everyone can, and I'm deeply grateful to the people of Iowa that I do have that opportunity. I've been extremely fortunate," he said in a written statement, adding he does not "by any means plan to retire completely from public life at the end of this Congress."

Iowan hauls home 300 pounds of campaign memorabilia

(CNN) - For the political junkie, these 300 pounds of steel are anything but junk.

So when Don McDowell, a 27-year-old Iowa Republican who collects campaign memorabilia, heard the huge metal plate in the shape of Iowa with Mitt Romney's campaign logo engraved in it was up for grabs, he rented a truck, rounded up his buddies and claimed the 8-foot-wide, 5-foot-high sign.
