Jay C. rips Jay-Z

(CNN) – It seemed like White House Press Secretary Jay Carney was waiting for the question when he was asked Thursday about Jay-Z's newest rap, which focuses on his U.S. government-approved trip to Cuba with wife Beyonce last week.

In the rap, Jay-Z suggested their clearance came from the White House, when it actually came from the Treasury Department.

Carney shoots down notion that Obama's charm offensive is fake

(CNN) – White House press secretary Jay Carney Tuesday sharply rejected a statement that reportedly came from a senior White House official, who told a Washington news outlet that the president's recent charm offensive with Republicans "is a joke" and a waste of time.

"I have no idea who said that," Carney said. "But I can tell you that opinion has never been voiced in my presence, in the president's presence, in the West Wing. It does not represent the president's view, it does not represent the White House's view, and it does not represent the administration's view."

Carney: Spending cuts were never supposed to happen

(CNN) - As both parties seek to find fault for the largely unwanted spending cuts set to go into effect next week, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney says it's too late to play the blame-game.

"It doesn't matter that Republicans and Democrats voted for it because the whole point was that it wasn't supposed to come to pass," Carney said on CNN's "The Situation Room."

Carney backpedals on Gingrich slam

Washington (CNN) – On Monday White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said any politician who claimed they could guarantee $2.50 a gallon gasoline would be "lying." There is only one Republican presidential candidate – Newt Gingrich – who has made headlines calling for exactly that.

On Tuesday, the president's spokesman walked back the impolitic language.

Obama administration looking to resolve contraception controversy

(CNN) - After an avalanche of criticism, the White House is working on a way to thread the needle on a new health care policy which will require all employers-including religious institutions-to cover contraception in their health insurance plans.

Policy makers are angling for a loophole that would ensure women receive coverage without forcing Catholic charities, hospitals and institutions to pay for it, two senior administration sources told CNN Wednesday.

Carney throws RNC's ship captain analogy overboard

(CNN) - A top Republican's comparison of President Barack Obama to the captain of the ill-fated Costa Concordia this weekend ran aground Monday with the White House as it was sharply denounced by Press Secretary Jay Carney.

"If you are so desperate for attention that you make an analogy that Michael Steele deems inappropriate, you know you have probably gone too far," Carney said in the White House press briefing.
