Obamas and Bidens team up for hiring veterans

White House (CNN) - Both the Obamas and the Bidens are setting new goals in their joint White House initiative to encourage companies to hire more veterans and military spouses into the workforce.

"If you can save a life on the battlefield then you can sure as heck save one in an ambulance, if you can oversee a convoy of equipment and track millions of dollars of assets then you can run a company supply chain or you can balance its books," President Obama said.

Second lady talks prospects of 'Biden 2016'

(CNN) – Her husband has already made two bids for the White House, but Jill Biden said in an interview airing Thursday she wasn't ruling out a third attempt.

"I think Joe would be a great president. I supported him twice. In 1987, I was out there campaigning. The last election I was out there campaigning. Of course, Barack must have thought he would be a good president, too, or he wouldn't have chosen him as vice president," Biden told CNN's Soledad O'Brien on "Starting Point."

Jill Biden will convene a White House summit on community colleges later this year.

Washington (CNN) – President Obama believes the Vice President's wife has a thing or two to teach others about higher education in today's economy. Mr. Obama has asked Jill Biden to convene a White House summit on community colleges later this year.

Courtney O'Donnell, Biden's communications director, told CNN the summit "will be an opportunity for community college leaders, students, education experts, business leaders, and others to share with the administration and with one another the innovative ways they are educating our way to a better economy." O'Donnell said the White House will release additional information on the summit in the coming weeks.

Mrs. Biden will introduce the president on Tuesday as he makes the announcement, and signs the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act. The legislation, which made changes to the original health care bill passed by the House, also overhauls the student loan system and makes investments in the community colleges. The announcement will take place at Northern Virginia Community College – the same school where Mrs. Biden teaches English.
