Watch Sen. Jim DeMint's Palmetto Freedom Forum on Labor Day from 3 to 5 p.m. ET on CNN or CNN.com, then watch John King's interview with DeMint on "John King, USA" at 7 p.m. ET.
Columbia, South Carolina (CNN) – South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint has become a firebrand, capitalizing on a tidal wave of anti-Washington sentiment that makes him the darling of the Republican conservative base and political dynamite to the party establishment.
"I don't have the support inside Washington or even inside my own party," DeMint said last week.
(CNN) - Republican Sen. Jim DeMint said Sunday he wants a jobs plan in writing from President Barack Obama, not just another speech.
"I am so tired of his speeches, it's going to be hard for me to watch," DeMint said on CNN's "State of the Union."
(CNN) - Although Republican Sen. Jim DeMint has yet to make a 2012 presidential endorsement, he said Sunday he could support any of the current top-tier candidates in the race.
"They all have strengths, and there's no one in that group that I couldn't support as our nominee and there's no one who would not do a better job than our current president," DeMint said on CNN's "State of the Union." "So I'm very open right now, I'm listening to what they say."
Columbia, South Carolina (CNN) – South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint said Wednesday he's withholding his coveted presidential endorsement while he waits to see which candidate shows leadership when a deficit reduction plan is presented by Congress' so-called "super committee" debt-limit panel.
DeMint, a tea party booster, said he thought the candidates were "too quiet" when he and other members were voting on raising the nation's debt ceiling earlier this summer.
Columbia, South Carolina (CNN) - Rick Perry will face questions from South Carolina voters at a Myrtle Beach town hall Monday morning before taking the stage at Republican Sen. Jim DeMint's highly anticipated Labor Day forum.
Tea party favorite Congressman Tim Scott is hosting the town hall with the Texas governor at 10 a.m. ET in his conservative coastal district, according to Scott's Chief of Staff Nick Muzin. Perry is the third presidential candidate to participate. Earlier this month, Scott featured Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann and former U.S. Ambassador to China and Utah Governor Jon Huntsman at separate events in Charleston.
(CNN) - White House hopeful Michele Bachmann said she wants to campaign for 2012 Senate candidates who embody the politics of Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida.
"I want to elect 13 more like-minded Republican senators, and I'm thinking on the order of a Marco Rubio," the Minnesota congresswoman said Monday at a campaign stop in Miami.
(CNN) – Mitt Romney will not attend a Labor Day forum in South Carolina organized by conservative kingmaker Sen. Jim DeMint, who endorsed Romney's run for president four years ago.
Romney spokesperson Ryan Williams, citing scheduling conflicts, said the candidate will instead spend the day in New Hampshire, sending another signal that the former Massachusetts governor is not focusing on the early Southern primary state like he did in 2008. He was not previously listed as attending the event by the organizers.
UPDATE: Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich also accepted an invitation to participate in the forum.
(CNN) - Four presidential candidates have accepted invitations to participate in a Labor Day forum in South Carolina being organized by Sen. Jim DeMint, a conservative kingmaker who has yet to pick a horse in the 2012 race.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, Texas Rep. Ron Paul and businessman Herman Cain have agreed to take part in the Palmetto Freedom Forum, to be held on Sept. 5 at a convention center in downtown Columbia.
(CNN) - Don't be fooled by the tiny turnout at the tea party rally on Capitol Hill Wednesday. The conservative movement doesn't much need rallies anymore. November 2010 changed all of that.
Boasting powerful leaders inside the Senate and big numbers in the House of Representatives, the tea party just might show the world how it might govern come August 2, the nation's deadline for raising the debt ceiling.
Washington (CNN) - If Texas Gov. Rick Perry decides to run for president - a safe bet according to many Republicans - he is likely to bypass the traditional step of forming an exploratory committee and jump head-first into the GOP primary fight.
Perry adviser David Carney told CNN that he doubts there would be enough time to pursue a formal "testing the waters" phase in advance of a full-blown campaign effort. The governor is expected to make a final decision about the presidential race sometime in middle to late August.
