Columbia, South Carolina (CNN) – South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint has become a firebrand, capitalizing on a tidal wave of anti-Washington sentiment that makes him the darling of the Republican conservative base and political dynamite to the party establishment.
"I don't have the support inside Washington or even inside my own party," DeMint said last week.

(CNN) - Although Republican Sen. Jim DeMint has yet to make a 2012 presidential endorsement, he said Sunday he could support any of the current top-tier candidates in the race.
"They all have strengths, and there's no one in that group that I couldn't support as our nominee and there's no one who would not do a better job than our current president," DeMint said on CNN's "State of the Union." "So I'm very open right now, I'm listening to what they say."

(CNN) – Mitt Romney will not attend a Labor Day forum in South Carolina organized by conservative kingmaker Sen. Jim DeMint, who endorsed Romney's run for president four years ago.
Romney spokesperson Ryan Williams, citing scheduling conflicts, said the candidate will instead spend the day in New Hampshire, sending another signal that the former Massachusetts governor is not focusing on the early Southern primary state like he did in 2008. He was not previously listed as attending the event by the organizers.

(CNN) - Don't be fooled by the tiny turnout at the tea party rally on Capitol Hill Wednesday. The conservative movement doesn't much need rallies anymore. November 2010 changed all of that.
Boasting powerful leaders inside the Senate and big numbers in the House of Representatives, the tea party just might show the world how it might govern come August 2, the nation's deadline for raising the debt ceiling.

Washington (CNN) - If Texas Gov. Rick Perry decides to run for president - a safe bet according to many Republicans - he is likely to bypass the traditional step of forming an exploratory committee and jump head-first into the GOP primary fight.
Perry adviser David Carney told CNN that he doubts there would be enough time to pursue a formal "testing the waters" phase in advance of a full-blown campaign effort. The governor is expected to make a final decision about the presidential race sometime in middle to late August.
