(CNN) - Longtime Republican Sen. Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma criticized President Barack Obama over the president's surprise trip to Afghanistan Tuesday, describing the visit as "campaign related" and an "attempt to shore up his national security credentials."
"We've seen recently that President Obama has visited college campuses in an attempt to win back the support of that age group since he has lost it over the last three years," Inhofe said in a statement. "Similarly, this trip to Afghanistan is an attempt to shore up his national security credentials, because he has spent the past three years gutting our military."

(CNN) – Texas Gov. Rick Perry picked up his first Senate endorsement Monday from Republican Sen. Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma.
"Fourteen months ago I called him up. I said, 'Rick, I don't know if it's really going to happen, but I really believe you're the only guy who can really win this thing," Inhofe said at the Tulsa event. "And when the time comes, I'm going to be there to endorse you'."

(CNN) – Republican Sen. Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma plans to endorse Gov. Rick Perry in his bid for the White House, his office confirmed to CNN Wednesday.
"I called Rick Perry a year ago and told him, 'If you're running for president, I'll be the first to endorse you,'" Inhofe said at the Tulsa Press Club, according to the Tulsa World. "I'm going to be that person on Monday."
