Biden to meet with Newtown families, announce mental health funds

Washington (CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden, an administration point man on reducing gun violence, will meet with families who lost loves ones in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre on Tuesday as the one-year anniversary of the shooting approaches.

Biden, who spearheaded an effort in the aftermath of the tragedy to find ways of stopping mass shootings, will discuss new funding for mental health services with the Newtown, Connecticut, families, who have publicly asked for privacy as the December 14 anniversary approaches.

Obama talks health care, NSA and 2016

Update 9:25 p.m. ET, 12/5/2013

Washington (CNN) - When asked who would make a better successor – Joe Biden or Hillary Clinton – President Barack Obama joked that there was, "Not a chance am I going there." And quickly added, "Both Hillary and Joe would make outstanding presidents and possess the qualities that are needed to be outstanding presidents."

Obama made the remarks in a wide ranging interview on MSNBC with Chris Matthews. He tackled issues from Obamacare and the NSA to the political stalemate in Washington and the faltering economy.

Bill Clinton: Too early for 2016 campaign to start

(CNN) - Bill Clinton says he doesn't know if his wife will run for the White House in 2016, but he does say that it's too early for the next presidential race to start.

Asked in an interview Tuesday with CNN Español Anchor/Senior Correspondent Juan Carlos López if he thinks Hillary Clinton will make another White House bid, the former President said "I don't know."

Joe Biden to visit Japan, China as air zone dispute smolders

Hong Kong (CNN) - U.S. Vice President Joe Biden will visit Japan and China this week as a dispute seethes over Beijing's recent claim of a large swath of airspace in the region.

The Chinese declaration less than two weeks ago has prompted a war of words between governments and flights through the contested air zone by military planes from the United States, China, Japan and South Korea.

The uneasy situation in the skies over the East China Sea has raised fears that a midair incident could cause circumstances to spiral out of control. It has also fueled concern about how far China is willing to go to pursue its interests in the Asia-Pacific region and push back against U.S. influence.

Christie leads possible 2016 GOP contenders in CNN/ORC poll

Washington (CNN) – A new national poll indicates, that for the first time, there may be an early frontrunner in the race for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.

And according to a CNN/ORC International survey, if Hillary Clinton decides against making another bid for the White House, Vice President Joe Biden would be the initial favorite to capture the Democratic nomination.

What's Biden thankful for this Thanksgiving?

Washington (CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden is known for his unexpected and quirky comments, but this Thanksgiving he's serious when discussing what he is thankful for.

"I'm thankful for my personal relationship with the President. There's a real friendship between us, and I have a great deal of respect for him," Biden said in an essay published for Time.com's special feature "TIME for Thanks."

Down a few bucks, Biden borrows some change for a hoagie

(CNN) – Amid a contentious day on Capitol Hill following the Senate's fight over filibuster rules, Vice President Joe Biden stole away from the White House Thursday to buy some subs from one of this favorite sandwich shops from back home.

The Vice President rang up just over 50 dollars worth of subs at Capriotti's, a Delaware-based Italian hoagie chain, on it's opening day in downtown Washington DC. Biden pulled out some cash to pay and realized he was short a few bucks.

Biden on healthcare.gov: 'We're going to fix it'

(CNN) – Vice President Joe Biden expressed confidence Monday that the administration is going to fix the embattled federal healthcare website.

"The truth is, we're going to fix it," Biden said at Ellington Field airport in Houston, speaking to volunteers working to help people enroll in health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.

"God willing," he added later.
