Huntsman's dad gave big money to his super PAC

(CNN) – Jon Huntsman Sr., the billionaire chemical magnate whose son dropped out of the 2012 GOP presidential race earlier this month, donated more than $1.8 million to a super PAC supporting his son's candidacy, according to documents filed Tuesday with the Federal Election Commission.

That accounts for 70% of the super PAC's total fundraising. The organization, Our Destiny PAC, raised a total of $2.7 million during the 2012 campaign cycle, much of which was used to fund advertisements in New Hampshire.

Romney is pushed again on tax returns, business background at SC debate

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (CNN) – Mitt Romney's rivals put his corporate record under the microscope in a Republican presidential debate Monday, with most of his GOP opponents looking to dislodge the party's frontrunner from his perch ahead of South Carolina's primary on Saturday.

The issue of poverty also factored prominently into the Martin Luther King Jr. Day match-up where a large studio audience roared in support or disdain over candidates' stated positions.

Perry on Huntsman and his daughters

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (CNN) – During a town hall here this morning sponsored by the website CafeMom, Rick Perry reacted to GOP rival Jon Huntsman's decision to suspend his presidential campaign and endorse Mitt Romney.

"Well I was hoping that I'd get the Huntsman girls [endorsement]," the Texas governor joked, referencing Huntsman's daughters who had been actively campaigning for their father on various social media websites. "We love the Huntsman girls. Our kids get along well and Mary Kaye [Huntsman] and Anita are best friends. Jon's a dear friend too."

Huntsman couldn't shed mini-Romney perception

Washington (CNN) - In a Republican primary focused on which conservative would emerge as the anti-Romney, Jon Huntsman was unable to position himself as anything more than a mini-Romney.

His blend of moderate and conservative positions, as well as his Mormon faith, combined to cast Huntsman as too similar to fellow Mormon Mitt Romney and therefore unable to overcome the former Massachusetts governor's huge advantage in name recognition, funding and organization.

BLITZER’S BLOG: Backing former opponents – in politics, it happens all the time

(CNN) - Jon Huntsman is now a former Republican presidential candidate. And, like former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty who dropped out after a poor showing in the Iowa straw poll last summer, Huntsman is now endorsing Mitt Romney.

Never mind that Huntsman said some negative things about Romney during his unsuccessful campaign. Pawlenty had coined the phrase “Obamney care” when trying to link Romney’s Massachusetts health care law to President Obama’s health care law. But Pawlenty quickly forgot about that and supported Romney on the campaign trail.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (CNN) – Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman officially ended his Republican presidential bid on Monday and threw his support behind Mitt Romney, the GOP frontrunner.

Flanked by his family and campaign advisers at a press conference in Myrtle Beach, just hours before a debate here, Huntsman thanked his supporters and rebuked his own party, calling on Republicans to unite in their fight against President Barack Obama.
