Should Boston bombing suspect get a Miranda warning? Debate follows Friday capture

(CNN) - As Boston celebrated the capture of a suspect in the marathon bombings Friday night, a debate erupted in Washington over whether military or civilian law would best handle Dzhokar Tsarnaev.

“This guy didn’t rob a liquor store. He wasn’t working for the Mafia,” Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, said Saturday on Fox News. “My God, they were at war with us, we need to be at war within our values and within our laws.”

Graham won't join gun legislation filibuster

(CNN) - Sen. Lindsey Graham does not support extending background checks to gun sales between two individuals, nor does he think such a bill would pass the Senate, but he said Sunday he will not hold the measure up with a filibuster

"The only way I would filibuster a bill is if Sen. (Harry) Reid did not allow alternative amendments," the South Carolina Republican said on CNN's "State of the Union with Candy Crowley."

Senators expect immigration legislation this week

(CNN) - Members of the bipartisan Gang of Eight senators working out immigration overhaul legislation said Sunday they expect to have a draft bill agreeable to their circle by the end of this week. But Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, a member of the group, issued a statement saying it was too soon to consider the deal struck.

"I'm encouraged by reports of an agreement between business groups and unions on the issue of guest workers. However, reports that the bipartisan group of eight senators have agreed on a legislative proposal are premature," he wrote.

Lawmakers nudge Obama after Syria reports

Washington (CNN) – Two leading Republican lawmakers said Tuesday that reports of chemical weapons use in Syria, if true, mean the president's threshold for involvement in the country's civil war has been met.

Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham, who have led calls in Congress for greater U.S. involvement in Syria, issued a joint statement saying the attacks, if verified, would demand a response from President Barack Obama.

VIDEO: Rand Paul answers GOP criticism

(CNN) – In an interview on CNN's "Erin Burnett OutFront," Sen. Rand Paul responded Thursday to criticism from his fellow Republican Senate colleagues, John McCain and Lindsey Graham, about his filibuster.

"These are the same two senators that argued in favor of indefinite detention," Paul said. "Which means, and I asked sen McCain directly, I said does this mean you take an American citizen without a trial and send them to Guantanamo Bay for the rest of their life without ever charging them? And he said yes, if they are a safety risk. Who gets to decide? Senator McCain? Does he get to decide if you are an enemy combatant?"

Graham introduces background check bill with NRA backing

Washington (CNN) – New legislation introduced Wednesday aims to close one loophole in the process of purchasing a gun.

The bill from Sen. Lindsey Graham and three other bipartisan lawmakers expands the scope of mental health information submitted to the background check system used by gun sellers. It has the backing of the National Rifle Association, and background check-related legislation has been considered the most likely of the various gun violence proposals to survive the legislative process.

'Hell-bent': Graham, McCain threaten to stall Brennan nomination over Libya

(CNN) – Republican Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham have vowed to hold up a full Senate vote on CIA Director nominee John Brennan until they get answers about the U.S. Consulate attack in Benghazi, Libya.

"I'm not going to vote on a new CIA director until I find out what the CIA did in Benghazi," Graham said Sunday on CBS's "Face the Nation."

Graham and McCain optimistic after White House immigration meeting

(CNN) – Two leading Republican senators voiced optimism Tuesday after a sit-down with President Barack Obama focused primarily on the hot button topic of immigration.

Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham and John McCain both said the meeting at the White House went well, though didn't delve into what specifically was discussed. Graham, who has opposed Obama on topics ranging from national security to budgets, said it was "one of the best meetings I've ever had with the president."
