(CNN) - Republicans need to move past last year's disappointing election before President Barack Obama drives the country to its demise, Liz Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, wrote in an op-ed published Friday in the Wall Street Journal.
"It is time for Republicans to get over their loss in 2012. We are all that stands between this president's policies and a damaged and diminished America," she wrote. "It is time to get back in the fight."

Washington (CNN) – Former Vice President Dick Cheney's daughter gave an update on her father's condition Thursday, days after he returned home following heart transplant surgery.
"He's doing wonderfully. He's at home. He was out of the hospital after just 10 days, which is just tremendous, and when I talked to him yesterday, he walked outside to the end of the driveway to pick up the newspapers and walked back, and it was a big milestone. So he's doing very well," Liz Cheney said after an event at the American Enterprise Institute.

Washington (CNN) – Liz Cheney blasted President Barack Obama in a statement Wednesday, saying he seems "unwilling to do what it takes" to protect the country from a terrorist attack.
Cheney released the statement following a report in the Washington Post that quotes journalist Bob Woodward's new book detailing the Obama administration's deliberations over U.S. strategy in Afghanistan.
According to an excerpt, Obama sat down with Woodward last July to discuss the White House's struggle with the threat of terrorist attacks on U.S. soil.
"We can absorb a terrorist attack. We'll do everything we can to prevent it, but even a 9/11, even the biggest attack ever . . . we absorbed it and we are stronger," Obama reportedly said in the interview.
Washington (CNN) - Another prominent conservative is asking Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele to resign, calling his comments on the war in Afghanistan "deeply disappointing and wrong."
Liz Cheney, a former State Department official and daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, said in a statement released Saturday that Steele must go.
"RNC Chairman Michael Steele's comments about the war in Afghanistan were deeply disappointing and wrong," Cheney said. "The chairman of the Republican party must be unwavering in his support for American victory in the war on terror – a victory that cannot be accomplished if we do not prevail in Afghanistan. I endorse fully Bill Kristol's letter to Chairman Steele. It is time for Chairman Steele to step down."
Cheney, a founding member of Keep America Safe, a conservative advocacy group focused on national security and foreign policy issues, is not the first to call for Steele's resignation. On Friday, influential conservative and editor of the Weekly Standard William Kristol called on Steele to step down.
(CNN) - The cause for former Vice President Dick Cheney's hospitalization is related to his recurring heart trouble, a family friend of Cheney's told CNN said Sunday.
Cheney was suffering from atrial fibrillation, or irregular heart rhythm, the friend said.
Cheney was admitted to George Washington University Hospital on Friday as a result of "progressive retention of fluid related to his coronary artery disease," Cheney's office said.
At the hospital, Cheney was placed on intravenous medication and his condition has "markedly improved," his office said in a statement Saturday.
On Sunday, Cheney's daughter, Liz Cheney, said that the former vice president was "feeling better" and would hopefully be released Monday.

(CNN) – Karl Rove, one-time senior adviser to former President George W. Bush, took a cautious approach Wednesday when asked about a cadre of Justice Department lawyers who represented military detainees prior to joining the Obama administration.
Keep America Safe, a conservative advocacy group focused on national security and foreign policy issues and affiliated with Liz Cheney, released a Web video last week that raised questions about the loyalties of Obama Justice Department lawyers who previously represented terrorism suspects detained by the federal government.
Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney and a former Bush State Department official, has caught flak from other conservatives, including former Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr, for her group's efforts to focus on these DOJ lawyers.
Asked where he stood on the issue of the lawyers targeted by Cheney's group, Rove was noncommittal.
"We need to have full information," Rove told CNN's Wolf Blitzer in an interview that aired on "The Situation Room" Wednesday.

Cheney, who was not scheduled to appear, received a warm welcome from the unsuspecting crowd and joked, "A welcome like that is almost enough to make me want to run for office again ... but I'm not going to do it."
During his brief remarks, the former vice president focused on recent Republican electoral success and the future of the conservative movement.
"There are some great years ahead of us. It is very, very important that we succeeed, and I'll do everything I can, but most especially I want to encourage that younger generation," Cheney said. "It really is a remarkable time to be a conservative."
The former vice president was introduced by his daughter Liz Cheney, a former State Department official and founding member of the group Keep America Safe. Liz Cheney used her time at the podium to launch a series of biting critiques of Obama administration policies.
"In the year that President Obama has been in office we have learned a lot, haven't we?" Cheney asked the audience. "We've learned he is not going to govern from the center, we've learned he doesn't believe in American exceptionalism, and he is going to travel the world apologizing for this great nation."
