Udall calls for 'reopening' of Patriot Act

(CNN) – Sen. Mark Udall, who's long called for greater transparency in how the government collects data on Americans, said Sunday the law allowing that monitoring should be reopened for debate after new disclosures about the scope of the intelligence community's snooping.

"It concerns me particularly because Americans didn't know this. That's why I'm calling for a reopening of the Patriot Act, I'm calling for a wholesome debate across the country," Udall, a Colorado Democrat, said on CNN's "State of the Union."

Udall: 'I did everything' to alert public to gov't snooping

(CNN) – After President Barack Obama asserted Friday that lawmakers opposed to the government's phone surveillance program had a chance to raise concerns, one Democrat said he's been trying to alert the American public for years about attempts to mine their personal data.

Chambliss shoots hole-in-one during Obama outreach round

Washington (CNN) - In another attempt at bipartisan outreach, President Barack Obama joined three of the best golfers in the United States Senate for a bipartisan round of golf on Monday.

The foursome included Colorado Democrat Mark Udall and Tennessee Republican Bob Corker, who were ranked as the top two golfers in Congress by Golf Digest as part of its 2011 list of Washington's Top 150 Golfers. At the time, both Udall and Corker had a handicap around two.

Senator wants changed seating for State of the Union

(CNN) - Colorado Democratic Sen. Mark Udall released a letter Wednesday proposing that members of both political parties sit next to each other at this year's State of the Union address instead of the normal seating which is divided along party lines.

"As the nation watches, Democrats and Republicans should reflect the interspersed character of America itself," Udall wrote. "Perhaps, by sitting with each other for one night, we will begin to rekindle that common spark that brought us here from 50 different states and widely diverging backgrounds to serve the public good."
