(CNN) — Mitt Romney's projected win in Massachusetts reflects Republican voters' favorable view of their state's former governor. About half the Republican primary voters in Massachusetts have "strongly favorable" opinions of Romney and these Republican voters came out for him. Another factor in Romney's win is Mike Huckabee's low support among Massachusetts Republicans compared to Southern Republicans. Even among Massachusetts Republican voters who attend church weekly, Huckabee's support is relatively low. More tellingly, Romney carried the white evangelical born-again vote. Romney's support also is higher among higher income voters, the college educated, conservatives and those concerned about illegal immigration. Filed under: Massachusetts February 1, 2008

Cellucci has long been a critic of McCain rival Mitt Romney.
(CNN) – Republican presidential hopeful John McCain will claim the backing of one former Massachusetts governor Saturday in his quest to beat another. Former Gov. Paul Cellucci will back the Arizona senator one day ahead of McCain’s visit to Mitt Romney’s home turf of Boston, according to McCain campaign adviser Steve Schmidt. Cellucci had previously backed former Rudy Giuliani’s presidential bid. The former New York City mayor ended his White House bid and endorsed McCain earlier this week.
